So, I'm a pretty funny guy, shut up yes I am, and I decided I wanted to throw my hat in the YouTube circle, and play some of my old GameCube games with my sister. But I have no clue how to record anything on a GameCube. It should be obvious, but I need it to record our voices too.

As far as I know, only PS4 and XB1 (and I'm not 100% sure about the latter) have built-in recording capability.

You'll need a TV capture card or dongle (you can pick up USB ones with AV inputs quite cheap) to plug the GameCube's output into. If that's too laggy to play the game on (it might be if it's USB2, depending on the exact device; if it's USB3 or internal it should be fine), you'll need a splitter so you can run the AV output to both the capture card and a display at the same time.

You'll have to record voices on a separate microphone. Though it should be possible to just record both at the same time instead of having to do any post-editing.

I've used this, or at least one that looks like this, in the past and it's done the job very well (though I was using it with PS2, not GC, but I'd imagine that makes no difference anyway).

Alright, thanks man. I hope it's not too expensive lol, I don't get paid again for a while.

There's a cheaper (free) alternative which is much easier......and much better performing than an actual GameCube. Ahem.

I think it's possible to use legitimate GameCube discs with emulators, rather than ROMs. (And unlike ROMs, this way is 100% legal and 100% ToU-friendly, at least if GameCube emulation doesn't need a proprietary BIOS, which IIRC it doesn't.) EDIT: It seems that this is only possible if you have one of a few very specific models of DVD drive.

Which is actually a far better idea than the capture dongle.

Or another option - if you've got one of those old DVD players that can also record TV, you can probably plug your GameCube into that (rather than directly into the TV) and record that way.

I suppose you could buy one of these https://bit.ly/2QMp6oI and then follow these instructions, substituting the Switch with the GameCube of course. https://www.reddit.com/r/nintendoswitch/comments/a1gqbt/_/

I think the actual process of doing it might cross some lines with GameFAQs rules. Google is your friend.

GameCube - Component cables are available. Decent option.
Wii - Composite-output only, IIRC. Worst option.
Wii U - Needs to be modded to play GC games but there's HDMI output and widescreen support. Best quality overall.
Emulator - Probably the easiest option. Numerous options for screen recording. Need a decent PC though.

You'll need a capture device for the first three with the appropriate corresponding inputs.

Simultaneously recording commentary really depends on your capture device. It's still possible if it doesn't support recording audio from multiple sources but can get tricky messing with Windows recording devices and such.

And that's why I'm not too stoked about using an emulator, I don't have a good PC, it would only be used for very basic video editing, and thumbnail creation.

It's worth giving Dolphin a try at least. It doesn't really need a super powerful GPU, basically just not an integrated Intel chip or something.
