I think just by playing it. There's some luck involved honestly, but a lot of it is just experience and being able to read people.

Playing online would be almost useless if youre trying to improve, theres virtually no reading other players beyond basic betting activity.

Playing in a casino, while not necessarily a fun environment (smoke, noise, etc) is probably one of the better ways to learn, since you play against better players and learn from that experience.

Playing with friends would be good too, since you know those people well and have a better chance of reading them, especially as you play more against them.

i have trouble even figuring out my opponents cards sometimes, betting activity would be a good start. my friends and i play about every 4 months so i get rusty in the meantime.

You really need to learn that you have to fold on most hands. Only play with really high combinations

when i play with my friends, blinds are so small at 5 and 10 cents ($10 buy in) that i often just limp in for the minimum and see if i can catch, if i can't i just fold. i do get into a lot of trouble chasing sometimes tho.
