I want to like it, but there basically is no story.

What's my motivation to continue? The pure joy of turn based combat?

Pretty much just the next challenge and seeing the art of the enemies.

Honestly, I've been off the train ever since Yakuza Kiwami 2 came out.

That said, I'm cosplaying as Olberic this coming year.

It started to fall off during the last chapter when everything got way too easy, but up until that point the combat & challenge made it fun. And the sidequest stuff was fun/difficult also.

I didn't care much that the story was lackluster. In fact I ended up skipping quite a few scenes of characters I didn't care about, but it would have been a better game with a better story certainly

I quit during the grind between Ch1 and Ch2.
It had some good combat but what I actually like about it isn't really the game itself. I like the fact that Squarenix had to ship more copies and admit they were wrong about the demand for turn-based RPGs.

Hopefully it was the wake-up call that pulled their heads out of their FF15-asses and made them start working on Bravely Third.

In the mean time, I should finish Radiant Historia, again.

The combat never got boring for me. The stories all had great potential, but didn't have the opportunity to get fleshed out enough for any of them to be great. The ones that started off slow and boring picked up a lot of steam by the end of the game.
The map actions or whatever they are called also show potential, but kind of faltered in execution.

I give it a solid 7/10. The game has some great foundation in it, if the paint put on the canvas feels lacking. If there's a sequel to this game, I expect it to be a 9/10 game. The foundation is there, I just think they ran out of time in building the pieces and putting them together well.

i'm only at the end of Ch 1 (one character left) but so far i like

- the art style
- the music
- the combat, specifically the BP system and how it makes turn-based battles a lot more interesting

What has already been said, presentation, music, and combat. The game rewards adaptive strategy rather than grinding, I'm doing chapter 4s right now and haven't had to grind a single time, instead went back into fights with a different plan.

That said the game does have many problems but overall it is a step in the right direction for Square. (But let's be honest. This isnt going to change a thing for it's big ticket developments)

move all remaining groundhog mercenaries to the front lines. Have sheep troopers squadrons A and B flank the cows. They're using DC-17 hoof blasters.

Yeah idk why people think you have to grind, if anything the game was too easy, especially once you can cheese the rest of the game (except the final boss) by getting Sidestep on your entire party lmao

It was pretty much a matter of ability points to learn said abilities, was the reason to grind.

It's definitely 100% not a game you need to grind during the main story - I grinded max for 1 hour during chapters but it wasn't really necessary.

For the final endgame content though unfortunately there's a ton of just straight grinding and it took me ~10 or so hours to get to a point where I was just on equal ground

I liked some of the individual story threads. They just need better integration between each other.

It was a fun 7/10
