I had gotten the series on DVD from a guy at Comic Con in NY before the official DVD release, so the quality isn't HD. Some of the episodes resonate more with me as an adult interestingly, like this episode where Beast fell in love with a blind girl who was about to have her sight restored: https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0751300/

I still love the art style but the animation was so choppy and the characters were off model so many times. I mean look at this: J5F0eWL

The start of it is awesome. I never went beyond the first or second season I think.

Last time I re-watched any of it I thought the voice acting was over the top and too much was "comic character of the week".

I disagree with that. Xmen and Spiderman hold up very well. Now, that said there are some stinkers. I tried to go back and watch Bugs Bunny and Tweety show, and it was a nightmare to watch. Same with Digimon.

Spider-man TAS does NOT hold up. Especially when you're older and notice the censorship issues (like how Spidey was never allowed to punch), the reused animation and the overacting. Corny fun tho.

The DC stuff holds up amazingly. Batman TAS, Superman TAS, Batman Beyond, Justice League/Unlimited, all timeless.

Ah, the 90's when DC was on fire and Marvel was "who posted" tier. Isn't it funny how things are the reverse now? >__>

This is probably an unpopular position, but I think I prefer X-Men: Evolution over TAS.

You're not alone.

That in mind, I wonder if I'm the only person who liked 90s *and* Evo Rogue. Seems like everyone I talk to loves one and hates the other.

Well..... The truth is, not so much. They tried to cram all the comic high-notes into a handfull of episodes and things feel rushed most of the time. I love TAS. But even in the 90s I was kind of disappointed in the show. The show is definitely worth watching. But most episodes feel like the cliff notes version of a better novel.

Evolution is mostly just okay-to-bad for a season or so. I watched it with a friend and I remember a certain episode where we just kinda looked at each other and said, "Holy shit, is this actually good?" And it just stays good from then on.

It was when the mutants were exposed and they couldn't hide any longer and the show finally explored the mutant prejudice angle.

I remember because my sister and I did the exact same thing lol

I'm just sad they never finished Spiderman 94 properly outside of the comics. I heard rumormills of them giving that cartoon a movie to finish off the story properly, but I don't know what came of that.
