The eight-hour workday harkens back to 19-century socialism. When there was no upper limit to the hours that organizations could demand of factory workers, and the industrial revolution saw children as young as six-years-old working the coal mines, American labor unions fought hard to instill a 40-hour work week, eventually ratifying it as part of the Fair Labor Standards Act of 1938.

people can work 30 hours a week if they want they just aren't gonna be making as much money

it's not like every business in the country is gonna give everyone a 25% raise if we cut the work week down to 30 hours

They would need to give raises and hire more workers. Not everyone works a 9-5. I work 12 hours meaning they would need to double my pay and hire twice as many people

Probably all it would do is make the "mental jobs" work less since they are the jobs that waste all the time. The janitors and mechanics would probably work just as many hours.

i agree let the 9-5ers beg for scraps when they are automated while the janitors do the real work nobody wants the job and janitors don't take pride in answering people when they ask what they do but in the future the average simpleton is going to be begging to have your shit job that can't be automated take the shit jobs now while the demand is low
