If you and others really would like to know, it's because someone uploaded a bunch of child porn.

Personally I was just hoping to hear about the host shitting themselves and playing nice when you lawyered up (or threatened to). I've had to do it myself a couple times and it's always nice to see how fast someone's attitude can go from "fuck you" to kissing your ass.

Unless they can prove he was the one who uploaded it, I don't see how.

If they want to go on a technicality route, it could be considered distribution because he is the owner of the site. If it took the server host to act before he ever did to get rid of the inages it doesn't look good. It is up to him to delete the content from the site and notify the authorities of who the uploader was.

How do other image upload sites handle this? You cant revoew every single image. Is there a report function that relies on users to flag uploads?

I won't get in trouble, I've already filed an appropriate report last night. I was never notified of its existence before they deactivated the server or else I would've handled it before it became an issue. Whether it's an attempt to smear the site or just a sicko looking to host some pics, I'm not sure, but I'm going to make some changes to the sites backend as a result.

I doubt it's a sicko just trying to host pics as surely they wouldn't need to use a third party site for that to share child porn.

I remember a long time ago reading a story about a child porn ring the FBI busted where like, I mean it was a whole website community of the shit, and I'm sure places like that can host the images itself. Using third party sites would be needless and stupid.

So I'm pretty sure anyone uploading it to your site did so purely for malicious reasons aimed towards you.

It'd be pricier, but NearlyFreeSpeech.net are the kind of host I suspect wouldn't pull this shit. The downside is you don't have quite as much control over your server, but it might still be enough for ImgTC.

Quite literally exactly what we thought happened. Some ideologues on reddit found out there was a competitor to imgur up, and they did what they always do when they find out there's a competitor to imgur up. They upload their child porn which they for some reason always have lying around in their hard drives to it and then say "Hey, this site has child porn on it! Take it down!"

nothing he said confirmed that and in fact there were numerous suspicious accounts in this topic trying to push the "CP haven" bullshit long before he confirmed what got the site locked down

There's always some clown doing this in every ImgTC topic, even though it's a problem that every image hosting website has to deal with
