Check out the minecraft wiki. You will be able to locate new things to build and then start researching how to build whatever it is- make a goal to try to get into the nether for example. You'll need to start mining and get some farms together (again, check the wiki for farming/obtaining seeds/proper lighting) and from there things will start to catch on. One of the first things to do after you build a house is to get yourself a bed so when you die you don't lose your house as it becomes a spawn point.

Yeah I've just made a bed. But you see my main problem is I'm too afraid to venture out as something will probably kill me. Then I won't know where I was so I can go and retrieve my stuff. And I'll lose the map too, then I'm really stuffed from that moment on.

I used to play like this too. Don't do that. Trust me the game gets real boring real quick if you play like that. So much has been added to minecraft that it'd be a shame to not go explore and have fun. Doesn't matter if you die. Are you just playing vanilla survival minecraft or are you looking to install some mods?

That's not as difficult as you think and you can leave unique path markers as you go. A big thing is to place torches only on one side of your path so you know when you're going deeper (torches on the right, e.g.) or heading out (torches on the left). If you're exploring branching paths just place a sign or extra torch at the entrance of the path you're exploring.

When I played Survival, I first built a home base and decked it out. Several rooms and floors, a farm, a garden, etc. All inside an impenetrable fortress.

That took me some time as I would venture out (but not too far) to get the supplies to do this. Every time I went out, I would create small hideouts along the path where I could rest if I wasn't able to make it back home before sunset. Eventually I started expanding those hideouts as well and they became second and third homes.

As I explored further, I started building tunnels and rail systems to connect my different homes together through the different biomes.

Good signage helped me keep track of where I have been.

After a while, I had made a pretty good dent in developing the land across the world where there was never any real danger at night anymore.

It takes some patience to play this way but I had a good time.

I have put 100s of hours into Minecraft over the years and I've never played with enemies on. It just doesn't sound fun to me. These days I mostly play creative instead of peaceful survival mode.

Used to play with mods and online when I played it on pc but mostly I've played on the ps4 and now the switch. I don't know I just don't really get bored of it. Always thinking of something new to try building and I find it to be an incredibly relaxing game. Also for the last year I've been playing it with my child, having a very imaginative 5 year old suggesting things really adds a lot.

with kids makes sense. that's a game i'd easily suggest to parents with young kids.
