He's not wrong that shows like SNL are where a lot of people happen to hear first about political events, and certainly the way they're cast shapes their opinion. Conservatives, for example, have long hated that every time Jon Stewart was asked to be held accountable for his role in politics his response was "we're a comedy show", and yet multiple polls found that The Daily Show was a primary source of news for many younger people.

It's not a news program, but you'd have to be intentionally obtuse to not understand the impact it has on people's perspectives on topical political discussion.

Theyre not poking fun at politics and you know it. The show has become nothing more than one sided political satire. Theres nothing tasteful about it. The show has become the fuck Trump show and its a complete disgrace to the classic era.

If SNL quit making new episodes in the year 2000, it would be pure comedic gold. This modern stuff absolutely ruins the reputation. People tend to remember the very best and very worst about people and things, and this is a new low. Not to mention the fact that their current cast is pathetic when compared to the cast of the 90s. They set the bar so high that they should never have kept going.

People tune out of the news but tune into comedy. Apparently it's a shock when comedy delves into politics despite the two being intertwined for thousands of years.

Trump cultists are always good for a laugh. It was like a huge emotional roller coaster in the summer when in the space of a single week they defended the wall being literal then figurative and then literal again.

No, cause even with W, they were at least trying to be funny over political sometimes, and every single sketch wasn't political with the slant being completely in one direction. SNL is now more biased than the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and it isn't even close(The Daily Show is supposed to be biased and was a news based show from the get go).

It never even went this hard with GWB. However, with Obama (and even Clinton) it was always gentler anyway.

Well Trump constantly whines about them and gives them attention when they spoof him.

It's smart to take advantage of that. I'm surprised a guy who is so obsessed with TV ratings hasn't figured that out yet. Actually nah that's a lie because it's Trump.

This is what he literally said, which is still stupid, but has no impact on my first post. He called SNL a Democrat spin machine and Dem commercials, but not news.
A REAL scandal is the one-sided coverage, hour by hour, of networks like NBC & Democrat spin machines like Saturday Night Live. It is all nothing less than unfair news coverage and Dem commercials," Trump tweeted after Saturday night's season finale. "Should be tested in courts, cant be legal? Only defame & belittle! Collusion?

Because "and" is a word that serves a purpose. I didn't think I'd have to explain basic sentence structure, but here we go:
1. He has 2 subjects in his first sentence: "networks (like NBC)" and "Democrat Spin Machines (like SNL)"
2. In the second sentence, he has 2 direct objects as well: "unfair coverage" and "dem commercials"
3. If you put the two sentences together, you'll realize that like any basic set of sentences, "network" maps to "unfair coverage" and "spin machine" maps to "dem commercial". Subjects map to objects.

I expect either you'll take nibel's approach and just claim that "everything is news because he said coverage", or argue that Trump's English is so poor that "of course" that's what he meant even though that's not actually what he said.

And then, even though I already said it was a stupid statement, you'll continue to argue that somehow I'm defending him when all I did originally was state that SNL influences public opinion and in that sense he wasn't wrong.

SNL has been satirizing Presidents since at least the 70's with Chevy Chase doing Gerald Ford.

This isn't anything remotely new, get over it. Trumpsters need to be less sensitive and realize that SNL won't give President Snowflake a safe space.
