At the surface, the 6x3 grid seems to add depth, but in the end the rest of the game dont do the improvement any favor by cutting off the RPG part. Stick of truth is based on classic jrpg mechanics. Or to be more accurate, paper mario rpgs. You have regular attacks, complete with the timing minigames. You have skills, and magics it does stuff from attack, healing, buff, debuff. It is not the most revolutionary system, but it works. The equipment system is also taken straighy out of mario rpgs. In butthole, you dont have regular attacks. Just skills, and you can only equip 4 of them, use them over and over again, and the equipment system is stripped to be dumb and simple as possible. It seems to be an improvement the first 2 hours, then ultimately it devolve into banal repetitive stuff. The world devovle into ubisoft "take this area, liberate this zone etc" too.
