Do people actually enjoy "go to this specific point, kill/collect/talk to # things, then come back for a reward way too good for the effort" enough for developers to keep doing this

Being an errand runner really isn't all that fun

Because this is what people are asking for

Stupidly huge worlds filled with dumb fetch quests. It's a millennial thing.

Yeah it's annoying AF. I realized that I stopped enjoying open world games as much as I used to as a kid, but then I also realized that the maps were smaller and there was just the right amount of shit to do to avoid getting burned out.

Now you have these giant ass maps but there's nothing but pointless treasure chests scattered around to collect that ultimately have no bearing on the outcome of the game and don't reward you with anything.

A lot of games you can ignore the stuff and still have a full gaming experience. Then some games like Dragons Dogma have such good gameplay that you don't even mind that you're not really doing anything.
