...even when you're literally right next to your router?

My Switch has been disconnecting from online play a lot lately, but I know it's an issue with the router because it's been happening with other devices too. I tested the download speed in the room where I usually play, and it's typically around 20 mbps. I thought it might be an issue with distance from the router, so I tried testing the speed right next to the router. And I'm usually getting ~40 mbps, but I've also gotten 7, 9 and 15 (despite still getting three bars).

I'm not sure what else to do at this point. I ordered a WiFi extender that has yet to come in, but if the signal quality can be ass even when I'm one foot away from the router, then that won't help much. And using a wired connection isn't feasible due to the location of my router.

see if you can find out what channel your wifi is on. itll usually say in the settings of the router. use a wifi analyzer to see what other people's networks around you are using and pick one with the least people using it.

how old is your router? might be worth it to upgrade to a new one of it doesn't have the 802.11ac standard, especially if its in the same room.

besides that, is a microwave on? my old router would die if the microwave turned on lol.

There is a lot of interference in the 2.4GHz band, so if you live near a lot of people (who all have their own wireless networks), or if you use other devices that operate in that band (like a microwave), it will have an effect. Try using 5GHz band if available. The range of 5GHz is less than that of 2.4GHz, however. If that doesn't help, go wired and see if you still experience this. If you do, then it's your ISP.

I think the router is only a few years old (like 4 or less). I live in a house, so I'm not too close to my neighbors, but where is a second arouter in the house (although I think the problem started before it got installed). And I am using the 5GHz band; as far as I know, there aren't any others nearby.

I'll try changing the channel and see if it helps.

Yeah, 2.4ghz WiFi is trash for playing online in most environments

Make sure you have a dual band router and that youre connecting the Switch to the 5ghz network

My 5GHz band apparently shares a channel with 5 other nearby networks.

Is that good or bad? It's apparantly one of the least-crowded channels here. >_>

Eh mine hasn't disconnected once and it's separated by walls. Your router might just be dying. I'd get a new one and test it
