Movies based off of video games have always failed at the box office. World of Warcraft, Tomb Raider, Mario Brothers.......the only exception to this rule that I can think of is the original Mortal Kombat.

However, games based off of movies have always been equally bad. The only one I can think of that's an exception to this rule is Riddick.

In your opinion, which medium of entertainment has had it worse when it comes to sales and enjoyment?

Movies based off games, because:

A) Movies are worse than games so it's a downgrade of medium

B) Games' stories are often intrinsic to the gameplay so it doesn't translate well for a movie audience

So you don't think Bioshock would make a good movie because the lack of gameplay would take away from the movie experience? It wouldn't matter if the movie was atmospheric, claustophobic, well written with a surprise ending?

Movies based on games aren't always bad, and at most they're only a couple hours waste of time, while games based on movies waste a lot more time than they're worth.

Alien: Isolation was a pretty good use of movie rights. I haven't played the new Jurassic Park game, but I heard that also used the film rights to not only promote the new (Shitty) movie, but also provided a decent game, I heard.
