Good luck to you. Try to keep it slow and steady and dont beat yourself up if you slip.

Im basically on the same route. Mine is to knock down at least a third of my debt, budget better, eat healthier, exercise more often and consistent, and quit smoking.

Ive already slowly started all of them because I feel like waiting until the first of the month or this coming Monday is like cutting your chances in half. Im already going on three weeks without smoking so Im just rolling with it.

good luck to you too pal, almost same deal with, this monday i will start being more disciplined and falter my ways

but not anymore, i am already late at marriage, about time i get serious in life

Become comfortable with myself again.

Been married for 4 years (together for 7). Getting divorced. Entering single life in my late 20s is going to be an adjustment. I've been so used to having a partner that it's simply uncomfortable being alone. This year will be one of reappraisal--of what I want out of my life and what type of person I want to be, rather than the person I was when I was in a commitment that I thought was going to endure the rest of my life.

Also I become a doctor this year, so this will be a big year in terms of learning how to fill those shoes.

What caused the divorce

Long, long story. The spark notes version is a combination of having a significant other with borderline personality disorder and the unholy demands of medical school. During the hardest two years of med school, I wasn't able to put in as much into the relationship relative to the first few years we were together. This led to a growing distance that culminated in her having an affair.

Hike to the bottom of the Grand Canyon and back

Lived in Arizona most of my life but have never done it, and only visited the rim once as a little kid.

Though it mostly comes down to luck of the draw if you can secure a camping permit so if not, then I'll take a trip to Utah to visit Zion National Park and/or Bryce Canyon

400 platinums by the end of the year (might be a realistic goal, not sure). that's about 80 to go.
main goal is to get an ID which is my new years resolution.

Did you know about the personality disorder from the beginning?

More or less. She had a very difficult childhood, but I didn't really see any red flags in the first 3 years of our relationship. She had some struggles with depression and suicidal ideation at seemingly random times, but we've always worked through it. I also felt that she never "split" me, a common symptom in BPD patients. She definitely had the impulsivity, but that was something I valued in her. We went on several vacations over the years spontaneously that were absolute adventures. So back when we had all the time in the world as college students, we had a great life. I also have a background in psych, so I'm a very patient and understanding person, especially for these types of things. So the stability for her was something that was new to her and she showered me with so much love and affection for years because of it.

But she has a difficult time putting healthy boundaries with people she meets, emotionally. To her, it was always an insistence that "she knew where she was emotionally" so when we spent most of our time together, this wasn't an issue. When I was consumed by med school, her lack of boundaries led to some men in her life to seriously pursue her. Eventually it became this gradual slide where I felt increasing distance from her until eventually I discovered she was having an affair with her research PI/former professor who was twice her age.

Towards the end/a bit before the affair there was an increasing unease in her in that she was discovering feelings for women as well and that she was bi. We were in the process of working through these and I was trying to discover where I was comfortable in her exploring these seeing as she didn't really come to terms with it until after we were married. Then there were talks of polyamory.

Eventually I just sort of realized that these are just manifestations of her illness. Sexual promiscuity is a feature of BPD, and after some time I simply wasn't enough for her. After some time, the constraints of a marriage got to her. She has developed a genuine belief that no one person can meet all of one's needs, so she thinks the logical conclusion is to be in multiple relationships.

I'll never get romantically involved with someone with BPD again. I think on some level I was arrogant enough to think that I could "fix it." That providing that stable unconditional love would eventually make it "go into remission."

It's an amazing experience. Would definitely recommend. The permits can be a bitch though unless it's reserved very far in advance.
