Whoo, Great list.

I've read all, but, The Master and Margarita.

All Quite is Amazing, One of the greatest last scenes I know.

Crime and Punishment is great as well. A little lighter the War and Peace. ((I've read War and Peace many times))

The Brothers Karamazov is Heavy. I had to read it twice to understand it.

Side note: For a quick read Tolstoy's version of How much Land does a Man need is nice.

Super side note. Which translations, are also, a question.

I'm reading Briggs translation for War and Peace. If I read Brothers I'd probably read McDuff. However you said it was a heavy read. Kinda want to go lighter next time. So i'm leaning towards All is Quiet.

Ya Brothers is deep. The whole time through reading the first time, I kept thinking. "Where is he going with all this" But once I finished it I kinda knew. So, the second time around it made more sense.

All Quiet is a bit more straightforward. But still a great classic. The fact that is written from the Germain point of view makes it that much better. Plus, imo WWI doesn't get enough love as it is.

Is All Quiet like the Russian books in that the translator is important?

https://www.amazon.com/All-Quiet-Western-Front-Novel/dp/0449213943

Would this suffice?

I'm not sure but probably. German and English are much more closely related. As opposed to English and Russian.

@ChainedRedone

Actually just checked. AW Wheen is the same translator as my copy.
Different addition, same text.

Side note again: All Quiet on the Western Front does have a sequel as well.
It's titled The Road Back. I have that as well, in hardcover.
Not pushing that. But few people know there was a sequel.

...Pretty sure Constance Garnett was my translations for the Russian novels.

I know it was for Crime and Punishment. I just checked.
((Not sure where my War a Peace is)) but I think it's the same.

Both are short but have you read Notes from Underground and The Dream of a Ridiculous Man? I found both of those incredible. If you like that style/theme Diary of a Superfluous Man by Turgenev was great too.

Out of those I would go for All quiet on the western front. Out of a bunch of pretty dense books, that one is the lightest, and it'll be nice with a change of pace after Tolstoy. Don't get too stuck in classics, though, mix in some contemporary and pulp stuff

So right now I'm on Volume 2, Part 1, Chapter 11
356/1358 pages in my edition

This is soon after Austerlitz and Pierre shot his friend. Wait so Did his friend bang his wife or not? Someone answer this for me please..UNLESS it's a spoiler and it gets revealed later on. I feel it's getting a little slow so I may read another book alongside War and Peace so I don't get burned out. Strongly leaning towards All Quiet or Crime and Punishment. I already have Master and Margarita but I can hold off on that. Didn't get a single vote and I can't just dismiss CE's will.
