TC is right, it is majority of peoples babies first RE another comparison that fits well is DBZ its a shit show with a fucked up storyline line compated to the original DB but a lot of people saw Z first and claim its better than DB. Same shit with Toy Story as a kid I knew Buzz went into toy mode around Andy yet the movie centers around him being a real space ranger thid is terrible and lazy writing placing this giant ass plot hole but it gets a pass? Lion King is perfect! No, how the fuck does pride rock turn to shit in no time? But since it's lion king it gets a pass.

Back to RE4 casuals fall under this problem Metal Arms Glitch in the System had real time weapon change, you could argue that Banjo Tooie/MGS/Jet Force Gemini shit even SNES games had real time weapon change but RE4 revolutionized the industry Metal Arms did everything RE4 did before RE4 ever came out byt casuals didn't play it so it doesn't count.

Was it perfect? No.
Was it a good Resident Evil game? Yes. Especially when you include the later games that followed it.

RE4 is a game that starts on a really high hill with the cool setting of the village and the surrounding forests and lakes and jeverything after it is just a roller coaster of mediocrity. The castle is incredibly boring and visually uninteresting compared to where you just came from. The Island varies between putting you in interesting situations like the regenerator lab and fighting the big thing in the maze that falls apart as you go through it, and really boring sections with fights against the same dudes you'd been fighting the entire game.

A lot of the systems in the game feel like they were trying to achieve a balance between survival horror and action and they utterly failed. The attache case never once made me feel like I was limited in any way beyond the very beginning of the game. The game tries to motivate you to conserve ammo with melee but enemies drop soooo much bullets that I literally cannot remember a single time I felt like I was pressed to kick or use a knife beyond just getting bored of pegging guys in the head. The atmosphere of the village is actually genuinely spooky at points but it completely falls apart as soon as you hit the castle.

Something I think a lot of people don't remember is that a lot of the bosses are awful. Out of everything in the game I'd say the fight against the village chieftan and the fight against the big monster in the fall-apart maze are the best battles in the game. The others are super ultra gimmicky or entirely too easy and unmemorable.

Can't really fault the -core- gameplay, which is still genuinely pretty fun, but the way it's structured going from fighting setpiece to fighting setpiece I ultimately get bored and quit halfway through every time I replay it. I wouldn't call it a bad game, but people holding it up as some sort of perfect or near-perfect thing is so grating, especially when every RE before it except for Code: Veronica is structured much better
