We got the verdict and it was not the good news we wanted. We have been trying to conceive for just about a year now. We got our first positive pregnancy test result last week. And then took another the next day just to be sure which was also positive. But with that said we were still worried, there had been issues with her cycle the previous month and so things didn't seem right. But we were waiting to see a doctor until we got our new health cards in I got a new job last year and it was supposed to be kicking into effect this month. But because I'm a federal employee and because of the shut down it seems like my application has not been processed yet.aa

Cue yesterday. She starts experiencing bleeding and cramping, and we're not doctor's, but we know it's a bad sign. I spend hours on the phone trying to find out how we're even supposed to be seen by a doctor while we're in this insurance limbo caused by the shutdown. Eventually it gets sorted out and we're assigned temporary information which is good enough to get an appointment scheduled for q today.

And for one glorious and excited week we were so happy about the test and what it meant for us. And today they confirmed that she experienced an early stage miscarriage.

The director was very nice and explained that these kinds of things are more common than you might think, but that still doesn't really soften the blow. They said that we shouldn't be concerned about what this means for our chances to have kids yet either. I guess it's not a major concern until you've had more than one. But it will still be another month for her body to back in the normal swing of things so we can try again. And so we are both feeling pretty crushed right now.

We haven't even told anyone that it seemed like we were pregnant yet and now we aren't sure if or what to say to our families. So if you know me or her through Facebook please don't bring this up, we'll figure out how we want to proceed in our own time with regard to telling the people in our lives.

This has been incredibly heart wrenching, but the support you have all expressed in this topic means a lot.

A couple of good friends of mine are going through something similar and it's absolutely the worst thing. I firmly believe you'll get your chance someday though, just as I believe they will. Keep your chin up and don't give up!

FD, if it's any help, my Aunt went through 3 miscarriages before my cousins were born. Sadly 50% of pregnancies end in miscarriage and while it's heartbreaking, it's not the end and you will eventually have a child. A good high school friend of mine took almost 2 years to finally get pregnant, and her family was hounding her so much about finally getting grandkids that it put a lot of stress on her, but it happened eventually.

Just remember that what happened was common, you did nothing wrong, and you will have a full term pregnancy sooner than you think.

And you're right, I'm already seeing signs of her feeling added guilt even though we were explicitly told that this is no one's fault. Unfortunately it is one of her traits to feel personally responsible, even when something is not her fault.

I really hope for both or sakes that it takes much less time to get pregnant again because we have a rough time ahead of us.

I'm heartbroken for you, fd. My aunt and uncle went through a couple miscarriages before they finally had my cousin, it definitely takes a toll. You'll get through this, and in the end you'll be some damn fine parents.

That insurance situation is really fucked up, and I'm sorry that you had to deal with that in addition to everything else.

My grandma had a few miscarriages and a stillborn iirc before my mom and uncle were born. Don't give up hope!

Still feeling pretty numb today. I don't think either of us sleep very much or well.

Oh and I got a call from my boss letting me know that I've been deemed "essential" aka selected to work without pay starting Thursday. So the one personal perk of the govt shutdown is ending.
