I've started noticing that my lawn started getting these weird bulb lookin things. They look like they some spikes in them

I thought it was litter at first but no, I noticed they were coming from the ground

I've never actually seen a wild mushroom before so this is kinda trippin me out.

I tried doing research on them but god damn theres a shit load of species of shrooms out there, man

I think its either a green spore parasol or a shaggy parasol...or maybe something else entirely, I dunno. i can try to get a picture

I'm scared over this because of my pets, I'm afraid my dog or cats might eat them. I have no idea if these are poisonous or not.

It is extremely rare to find a poisonous mushroom in a lawn but it is possible

Do you have any pictures of the underside? Usually the gills are used in identification. But it might still not be enough to identify the exact species.

I get little brown or white mushrooms once in a while, mostly after it rains.

Never seen a mushroom like that though.

My wife works in a mycology lab. She says the mushroom is probably a shaggy mane, which is edible. But it's hard to 100% confirm from that photo so I wouldn't go eating it or anything.

If it starts to self-digest (liquefy) as it gets older, that would be further confirmation.

However, there's a chance that it's a different mushroom. It's hard to tell without seeing better pictures that show the size, underside, or other mushrooms in various stages of the lifecycle.

I'm not questioning your hot scientist wife but interestingly enough I asked a friend to post the shroom their facebook and another mutual friend replied and she ID'd it as a Green Spore, Claiming that a Shaggy has snake skin texture. Shes an outdoorsy cowgirl who hunts and takes care of farm animals and stuff

I found it interesting because its outdoorsy experience and SCIENCE giving me two answers lol

Occasionally we get a couple little white ones that animals definitely eat, and at my old house we had a tree stump and fungi would grow on the sides of that

One time I was mowing the lawn and didnt notice the big mushroom I was about to run over until it was too late to stop. It made a big purple cloud when the mower hit it and a lot of the grass in about a half a foot radius died over the next couple weeks. Never saw another mushroom in that spot though

It could be. She did start to second-guess herself because she said the texture wasn't as scaly as most shaggy manes are, but that could also be because it's younger.

If you wait until it gets older and starts to die, the edges will turn black and liquefy if it's a shaggy mane. Looking it up, I don't think a green spore does that.

yeah you just have some organic material decomposing, the mushrooms are good for your lawn long-term.

If you see your pet ingest a mushroom, try to salvage a piece of the mushroom to take to the vet with you.

Well, pull one out and keep it on you and away from your pets in case you need it for reference.

any tree removals done lately? If so, mushrooms could pop up from any decaying roots lefts underground.

We have mushrooms pretty frequently and look pretty similar to what you've got. I enjoying using them for golf practice when they show up. No idea what kind you've got exactly, though, just that it's probably harmless.
