No it gets cringy as hell when people feel the need to post celebrities with sillyass quotes trying to sound wise.

Those type of people can't think for themselves obviously.

I enjoy it for keeping in touch with old friends and people from old jobs and old sport teams I played in etc. Nothing wrong with it in moderation imo

I dislike it because it assumes all people are equal and deserving of the same platform space.

I quit when that Cambridge Analytica shit happened at Facebook. There were other revelations that didn't garner as much attention, like the fact that by default the Messenger app rakes your phone's contact list and collects all the metadata from any conversations you have or messages you send through it. Or that Zuckerberg and maybe a couple other higher-ups had access to an exclusive feature to delete messages that were sent, whereas no other Facebook user, even staff, could delete messages they had sent. Or that they were creating shadow profiles of even non-users to track a person's internet activities.

I was already tired at their algorithm that only showed me posts from the same three people (I have to imagine that of the 100+ people I had as friends, more than 3 were posting regularly. Maybe not, but with the algorithm they have it was impossible to tell without visiting each page individually). It also would just show me a lot of Onion articles...

And I got paranoid about the prospect of private companies basically farming personal data for the sake of creating inhumanly refined targeted advertising that simultaneously attempts to satisfy a person's interests while also helping to manipulate and shape their interests.

So I said fuck it and deleted it.

I actually liked the functionality of Twitter a bit but realized I was going to get myself in trouble if I kept my account open, so I got rid of it.

I think the only concrete use for social media for worker bees/wage slaves is a shady version of online dating. And thats what its used for by a ton of people. I will admit, its easier in a lot of ways than even bar pickups - these are people who are already socially aware of who you are, and that makes it a lot simpler to...get to the point.

But I can handle the bizarre awkwardness of dating apps and Ill take that. The baggage with social media is way too much. Facebook free for around 6 years here.

It's about the only thing I ever see on my Facebook these days. A woman posted one today where apparently Albert Einstein of all people was "quoted" as saying something about how a woman who follows the crowd gets no where, and a woman who does her own thing finds new paths or whatever; it was worded in a way that you obviously know some 20 year old girl wrote it and attributed it to a man of science for some reason.

Anyway, I got sick of Facebook because it's only people either posting lame memes or women posting non-stop "wordporn" posts, no one posts anything from their own mind anymore.

@Vol2tex

It's been a while so I was conservative about my assessment on the first claim, it was *all* calls and texts, though apparently only on Android devices - https://arstechnica.com/information-technology/2018/03/facebook-scraped-call-text-message-data-for-years-from-android-phones/

About Facebook deleting Zuckerberg's messages - https://techcrunch.com/2018/04/05/zuckerberg-deleted-messages/

About Facebook collecting and aggregating data collected from non-users of the service - https://www.theverge.com/2018/4/11/17225482/facebook-shadow-profiles-zuckerberg-congress-data-privacy

I forgot about their recurring data breach issue...

September 2018: https://www.forbes.com/sites/kateoflahertyuk/2018/09/29/facebook-data-breach-what-to-do-next/#7c77e492de35

April 2019: https://investorplace.com/2019/04/facebook-data-breach-2019/

Not to mention the fact that Zuckerberg is a shady mother fucker who can't give direct answers to simple Congressional questions.
