I was 21. Just moved back home after living in other states for a year. Woke up and saw it on TV.

I was a recent high school graduate still at home. And I was sleeping in on the west coast when it began. My mom somehow knew it was gonna be a historic thing, and she woke me up to tell me something big was happening in NYC on the news. I got up and I think the 2nd plane had already hit. I don't remember seeing it live. But I think I saw the towers fall live

Spent the rest of the day online talking to people with CNN on my tv

I woke up to my alarm clock that morning at 7am and heard my mom on the phone with my grandma, and I heard the TV on the news channel. I went and watched, and saw the second tower get struck. One of the towers collapsed before I left for school.

I got to school (4th grade) at 8:30 and we watched the news in class for over an hour. I learned that the other tower had collapsed in the meanwhile.

My teacher scared the living shit out of us by saying that World War 3 was about to begin, and that our lives will never be the same.

Oh excellent point. I forgot about that part too. While we were afraid that Los Angeles might get attacked next, we were definitely talking about a possible World War 3.

We were outside for gym class. Were made to change quickly and go back to home room without explaining anything to us. I think I was the last to make it back to class and I open the door to other kids yelling "JAPAN IS BOMBING US AGAIN!" and the TV is set to the news showing what is going on.

I don't really remember much of what was going on after that. I can't even remember if my mom pulled me out of school for the day.

About to turn in for the night when breaking news took over on the late night news.. they never went back to regular programming for at least 12 hours

I thought it may have been an accident until the second plane hit

I still have the news paper for that day (the 12th in Australia)

I was in elementary school. They kept announcing names over the intercom of students whose parents wanted them in the office. But nobody knew why. The teachers wouldn't say anything. Eventually my aunt came and picked me up. She told me and I think my cousins about what happened. I said "What if another plane hits right here?" She said "That's not funny." I don't remember thinking I was joking

Yeah 9/11 is the reason why im not in the military. My family has always been military but after that my grandad begged my mom to talk me out of joining if I ever wanted to. He had a gut feeling it would be a long ugly war. I dont know if ita been more ugly than Vietnam in which he was in but its definitely been longer I was in 7th grade when it happened so he was at least right that it would still be going when I was old enough

Yeah I think my grandad pictured it getting a lot uglier than it really did. He'll part of me still wants to join. Military had been part of my family history (at least on his side) since way before we where even in this country.

Remember my brother had a class that gave an extra credit assignment where they got points for every person on their family they could list that had served in the military. He came in with like 3 pages.
