I have a question. In the Long Night, they made a big deal about Bran somehow being the history of humanity and how they had to protect him from the Night King at all costs. But apparently he's just going to live a relatively normal (instead of as the Three-Eyed Raven) and best case scenario he'll die of old age. So what happens then?

Hey guys, remember the fiercely loyal horde of Dothraki and the seemingly endless army of Unsullied that were fanatically loyal to Dany?

IN WHAT UNIVERSE WOULD THEY BE COOL WITH ANYTHING THAT HAPPENED? THEY WOULD HAVE MURDERED JON AND THEN WENT RAMPAGING THROUGHOUT THE SEVEN KINGDOMS.

We saw what happened to Grey Worm after he lost his love (hell, we saw how unhinged he was early on the episode with the Lannister prisoners), so we're supposed to believe that finding out his Queen and savior was murdered somehow turned him chill again?

For that alone, this episode reaches Dexter series finale status. Tyrion had a few good moments in the episode, but besides those and the Ghost scene this episode was HEINOUS.

-Sam Tarly shouldn't have had a vote on the new ruler. As both a maester in training and member of the night's watch, he isn't supposed to have a say in those matters. One of his surviving cousins should have been there instead. I don't even think House Tarly is a Great House anyway, so that's also a bunch of bullshit.

-Arya leaving was idiotic after preaching family unity like two episodes ago

-Yara not lobbying for the independence of the Iron Islands was beyond idiotic. They were just as focused on gaining independence as the North.

-Same with Dorne, honestly

There is so much more that disgusts me, but I'm just going to stop myself for now.

I don't know why they made it seem like Jon getting exiled was like the glue holding everything together, but then the Unsullied (and Dothraki?) just fucked off. So who actually gives a shit that Jon stays away from everyone? Not to mention he doesn't even stay at the wall, and the Night's Watch doesn't exist. So Jon could be literally anywhere as far as the Unsullied/Dothraki know.

As I write this, I think the answer is I need to stop thinking about it.

And why wouldn't the unsullied simply kill him on the spot for it (especially with how Greyworm had been giving him the stinkeye lately)? I feel like the writers didn't know to handle it so they conveniently fastforwarded to Jon as their prisoner.

Unrelated but what was the fucking point of the horse that Arya rode away on at the end of episode 5

Remember the very end? The white horse came up and she rode it around somewhere, presumably leaving the city (though it was never shown, it was pretty fucking strongly implied)

Then enter episode 6 and she's like right back in the city lmao what was the point

I'll be a bit surprised if they still get to do it. Disney purportedly dumped the RJ trilogy after TLJ backlash and season 8 backlash has been of a comparable scale and also about a majorly popular franchise. Like the similarities between the two are so striking that you'd have to be blind to toss one's trilogy project out and let the other keep theirs.

Overall enjoyable ending.

A few things that were annoying though:

- The white horse at the end of episode 5 with Arya leaving....lol what happened there.
- fast forwarding to Jon is now a prisoner. This is made worse by the fact that Dany and Jon were alone. But I guess it is reasonable the guards would have come immediately when hearing the throne burning to the ground.
-Bran being king literally feels like the "let's just surprise our audience choice"
-Master of Whispers himself seemed like in episode 5 he was scheming a contingency plan. Was hoping for something there.
-Arya's ending just felt random.

Overall, enjoyable ending for one could reasonably expect on a forced rushed ending, that D and D decided to force. Though I blame Martin for not finishing his books here too.

The episode had some really good highlights. Tyrion had some great moments that reminded me of the Tyrion of the earlier seasons. Jon and Dany's last scene together was beautifully done, and the dragon burning the iron throne in response to it's mom's death. Dany's one last pitch to the crowd was well done.

The production values and music and scenery was top notch as always.

In the end, Dany who seemed to have the biggest pile of plot armor, couldn't defeat the finale.

EDIT;

I admit, I wanted Jon to give into temptation and rule with the queen instead of always doing the right thing. But either way that scene was beautifully done.

I'm surprised everyone thinks Aryas ending was random.

That was like, the one ending they nailed perfectly. Arya 100% is the type of person who doesn't want to live a quiet life and wants to get out and explore and see things no one else has.

The endings for all three starts were pretty good but Aryas was by far the best.

It was better than I thought it was going to be in that it was mostly okay.

It would've fallen a LOT less flat if they'd developed the Mad Queen stuff fully because the first half of this episode depends on you believing that. It actually made me kind of sad because the speech Dany gave was actually a pretty good way of showing that she could be "mad" while still thinking she's a good person.

Drogon destroying the Throne was some of the dumbest shit. I was legitimately wondering if this was meant to be an indication of a dragon's intelligence: smart enough to figure out mama was killed by a knife, dumb enough to think the knife came from the big knife chair? Is that what Detective Drogon deduced?

It makes complete sense that they know Jon did it because Jon is an idiot. He probably walked right out and confessed. But it is a bit silly that he wasn't just immediately killed. And that Tyrion wasn't immediately killed. That said, I think it does make sense that Grey Worm decides to compromise and leave than risk his remaining Unsullied in an ultimately pointless war. As for the Dothraki....I guess we're just assuming that whatever dark, draconic magic that reanimated them after they were wiped out by the Night King finally wore off and they collapsed into snow and sunbeams.

I rolled my eyes at Tyrion's speech about the importance of stories.

I actually felt a little bad for Bran. Sansa declares his dick doesn't work in front of everybody and then he gets labeled as "the Broken" for all eternity. I'd be a little miffed.

Sansa leaving the Seven Kingdoms ruined the entire scene. They tried to have their cake and eat it too. When she declared independence, there was very little reason half the other lords didn't do the same thing. It also undermines Tyrion's point about how Bran's impotence is a good thing because now the North is just going to be beholden to those same shitty aspects of monarchy.

Basically the entire Small Council is stupid. I suppose Davos makes some small amount of sense, but even then not a lot of sense. Sam being archmaester is dumb as hell. That should be a political disaster on a massive scale. I assume Brienne is there as Lord Commander of the Kingsguard, but that's also kind of dumb because surely she'd be Sansa's Queensguard. But Bronn is the standout. I could have maybe bought him as Master of War, but Master of Coin? Are you joking? This is a dude who literally did not understand the concept of debt a few seasons ago.

I'm mostly fine with Jon and Sansa's ending. How we got to Jon's was a bit dumb considering the Unsullied fucked off, but I think he's genuinely happiest North of the Wall.

Arya's was dumb. Aside from it completely changing her opinion on family and "da lone wolf dies while da pack survives," she's never really shown any interest in exploration for its own sake. She wandered all over the country, but that was out of necessity rather than interest. And it doesn't really count since it's a book nitpick, but she wouldn't be the first one to make this journey. Lots of people have. They've just never come back.
