after the middling reviews scores and people bashing that one singing scene with Will Smith, the movie actually outperformed expectations from that 75-80M projection and the audiences are in love with the movie and gave it a glowing review with an A Cinemascore...

it's rating on IMDB even increased after the initial low scores when that music video came out as people were calling it another disney flop

People even said Will Smith was actually GOOD and not annoying..

It even has a 93% on RT Audience rating..

are you surprised people actually love it and it was better than it was?

didn't RT just recently censor a bunch of reviews across the entire site and make it so that you have to pay to make reviews?

Yeah, they did. RT has been untrustworthy for a while though.

I've heard that Will Smith is good when he's not pretending to be Robin Williams.

I really enjoy the songs that I've heard on YouTube but I dont know what the visuals are like. Prince Ali sounded good but the clip we saw was unexciting.

Fuck that Jafar though. I have no idea what they were thinking. It's an admirable cosplay but nothing I've seen acted is reminiscent of the character at all.

You mean you have to show that you've watched the movie before reviewing it? How utterly absurd! Don't they know that the best way to review a movie is to form your opinion based solely on an out-of-context quote from one of the actors in the movie or, perhaps, by merely parroting the opinion of some loser on the internet who also hasn't seen the movie?

surely there can be some other way. making you pay to write a review for THEM is dumb. maybe put a code on the ticket from the theater. and then you enter the code into Rotten Tomatoes and it verifies that you own a ticket showing you saw the movie. but you shouldn't have to pay a fee just to give them a review

Currently, if you got your ticket through Fandango (who, yes, owns Rotten Tomatoes), then you can write a verified review. Certain theaters (Cinemark, AMC Theaters, and Regal Cinemas) have already signed up to the verification program, and will be rolling that out in the near future. Fandango/RT also plan to work with other ticket providers eventually (which is good, because right now everyone outside the US is locked out of writing a verified review).

Should they have waited until more theaters and ticket providers had signed on before rolling this update out? Definitely. Was this perhaps a little premature? Absolutely. Is this censorship? Fuck no. You can still write and read non-verified audience reviews; they're just not the first thing that users visiting the site will see.

That's really the only way this movie had a shot. Instead of trying to "copy" something that frankly can never be copied, they tried to redesign the whole presentation altogether (in an effort to make it feel original in its own right).

When well-written, Will Smith is funny as hell (ever since Fresh Prince / MIB / Hitch / etc.).

Oh, so because the primary theater I go to is the Alamo, I couldn't write a "verified" review. What a bunch of bullshit.
