We were watching Les Miserables in London's Queen's Theatre, and when adult Cosette came out, she was black. This made us literally laugh out loud because it caught us completely by surprise.

During the intermission, a woman sitting on our left said we were both extremely rude when we laughed. I said having a black singer for adult Cosette was so jarring because the child Cosette was white, and that made us laugh. If they wanted to use a black singer for adult Cosette, they should have used a black singer for child Cosette. She then called me a racist.

...........CE, was I wrong here or what?

For those who don't know Les Miserables, some details about this scene:
A little child, named Cosette, sings at the beginning. The child Cosette was played by a white actress in this production. After a while (15 minutes?), ten years pass and the child is an adult. The adult Cosette was played by a black actress in this production. Adult Cosette is one of the main characters in this musical.

No that's not racist. She's just an idiot. If she's white as a child she should be white 10 years later. People don't magically change race when they grow up.

It always threw me off when Nala's voice changed from a young black girl to an adult white woman in The Lion King. Like, did you think we wouldn't notice?

It was so darn jarring, I could not hold my laughter. Once she started to sing, she was really good and I understand why they casted her.

The latter part is on her being crazy but it's fair to call laughing out loud at inappropriate times during a live show rude.

It happens. I've done my share of live acting and might be a little oversensitive to the issue.

But yeah, the lady calling you racist for it is idiotic.
