That was the first trailer that really made me confused. A lot of it was the cuts of dialog they decided to include. It's only gotten worse form there.

The point of a trailer for a franchise movie isn't to get fans to see it. It's to trick non-fans into seeing it by pretending it's something completely different.

Just remember that it's controlled by marketing, and the two requirements for a career in advertising are a) a complete lack of understanding of human thought processes, and b) a void of purest evil where their soul should be.

I'm not a fan of Godzilla but like, if the movie looked good I would see it. This would, I assume, be the kind of person marketing should be aimed at convincing. To me the movie looks absolutely dreadful, and I audibly groaned when the trailer was like "oh my God" "zilla", like....this movie looks joyless, only a camp fest could get away with that quality of writing.

This is the worst line of them all, and I hope to christ it's trailer edit and not in the movie. That's the kind of like that can single-handedly stop people from seeing a film.

Out of curiosity, did you like the 2014 movie? I'll fully admit I'm not an entrenched Godzilla fan but I thought that one was pretty solid and this one looks better.

Yeah, that was my point. Terrible dialogue would work in a campy movie. This movie is played straight and looks joyless, so that line was atrocious.

I did not really enjoy the 2014 film that much and I thought this film looked infinitely better just based on trailers. It actually looks somewhat focused on the monsters this time.

the marketing campaign for this movie is definitely done by people who thought "let them fight" was the highlight of the last movie (which it was), while the writing is almost certainly from people who thought there was pathos in all the spousal and parental deaths.

@LapisLazuli @ZenOfThunder @iiicon

Godzilla 2014 sucked. Everything about the movie was dark, moody, grey, depressing and devoid of life.
Every scene was a shade of grey sucking interest I had with the movie. Showing the baby morph into a young grown adult, with a crappy transition effect that lasted 30 seconds was jarring and killed flow with the movie. He had a family now even though his family was gone due, to the nuclear plant meltdown blah blah blah yada yada yada.

1/10 movie.

This this this.

I haven't intentionally watched a trailer pre-movie in years (except during the pre-movie trailers, and I do my best to not pay attention).

Yeah, if you know you're already going to see a movie, watching trailers is bad. Like 99% of them are bad, not aimed at people already interested, or contain spoilers.

I stopped watching trailers BECAUSE of Godzilla. With few exceptions (like Avengers)

when the reboot happened, I went and watched it and was STUNNED to see the Mutos in the movie, it was crazy and hype. I thought it was just gonna be a remake of the very first Godzilla movie

so yea, it was totally amazing, but then everybody told me they were in the trailers. If I had watched those, then I would've totally lost all of that excitement

so yea, glad I haven't watched the trailers for this one either

Like these movies ARE the monster fights

it's like pro wrestling where you build up to the main event and then take two commercial breaks during it

...Hasn't Godzilla always done that? Interrupt the fights with scenes of the people, often in random rooms away from the fighting? The people doing random shit like talking with aliens that look just like them, or hiding out with the love interest, etc. and so on basically being commercial breaks.

Yup. The best Godzilla movies usually have great human parts. The 2014 movie did not, and it blatantly teased and denied us Godzilla until the end. King of the Monsters is much better.

The fight breaks are fine in KotM, some cut to humans with the monster fight in the background. This was a very good modern American take on classic Godzilla imo.

This was an excellent Godzilla movie and I feel like anybody saying it's a bad Godzilla movie never truly watched Godzilla

Obviously how much "Godzilla movie" translates to "good movie" will have mileage vary, but it being exactly what you should expect from a Godzilla movie is certainly not the problem
