Let's make it like Superman with its awful animation! Continuity!

Ugh.

Superman had good animation.

Supergirl never looked hotter than she did in that show. Darkseid looked appropriately menacing. Superman was both modern and classic. It was 90s Superman -- in a good way. The art style didn't fit Batman that well though. All of their characters received downgrades except for Batgirl and Scarecrow.

I never thought about it, but it's funny that the edgier art style -- and by that I mean the style that literally had sharper edges -- fit the boy scout hero better than it did the Dark Knight.

The art style and animation were good though:

It wasn't bad per se, but everything about the style and feel that made Batman:TAS was lost.

They called it the fourth season of BTAS, but I'll tell you what it really was: budget cuts.

Moving from Fox to WB was the turning point. The writers ceased having restrictions and ceased putting forth effort. Or maybe they were just over it and were on autopilot by that point.

Superman wasn't as good as peak BTAS, but it certainly felt fresh in ways that Batman at the time did not.

Animation and art style are completely different things.

Superman had a great art style:

The color palette was amazing, I don't know why it became so bright in Justice League.

Her design definitely was better.

Yeah, Joker and Catwoman were the true victims of redesign. Ivy was okay, but I'll always prefer the human looking femme fatale.

The animation was fine, they just made terrible choices in redesigning some characters.

The only design improvement was Scarecrow. Otherwise it looks low budget, which it was and it wasn't their fault, but you can't compare it to the beautiful former artstyle. They tried to streamline everything and it doesn't work.

It's weird but I really liked the more stylized designs for Superman/New Batman/Justice League more than the older Batman. But when the Marvel shows started getting more cartoony/stylized I really didn't like it though...

Yeah I hated the remodels.

What they did to Ivy was just horrible . I mean even as kid... I would not have minded getting a rash from that poison ivy. Then they turned her into some white /green things.

Interestingly, this is one remodel they actually explained in one of the comics. One of the last, if not the last, Poison Ivy episodes before the remodel was one where she was pretending to be a reformed woman with a family. She was lying, of course, and her husband and two sons were actually just plant-people. When Batman defeats her, she melts away to reveal that she was also a plant-clone and the episode ends with Ivy flying out of Gotham.

One of the comics apparently imply (or maybe outright states) that the Ivy in NBA is a plant-person and the real one has left Gotham.

It didn't imply, the btas/tnba comics outright show the real human poison ivy in some remote south American area just studying plants and stuff.

Not only that, the comics even give a pretty good reason for catwoman's redesign, though it doesn't quite explain the more childish personality shift.

I hated tnba as a kid but going back to the show as an adult I've come to appreciate it a lot more. Almost all the episodes are pretty good, and characters like batgirl definitely benefited from the sleeker redesign. I'm even no longer bothered by the joker downgraded redesign anymore, it's been 20+ years we're kinda over it.
