I didnt care for the changes to doom marines backstory but then again thats not why people play doom. It was super fun I generally dont like fps games and I enjoyed every minute of it. Even went out of my way for the collectibles

It's completely un-doomlike outside of its basic framework and a lot more closer to games like Serious Sam or Painkiller that focus around you being locked in a room full of spawning enemies, As a result level design is very boring and repetitive. Combat isn't bad in and of itself. Melee kills are annoying, though I will admit they did their best to at least make them fast. Shouldn't have been in the game at all though.

Snapmap is trash. An absolute insult to the series that literally invented the modern idea of a "modding community.

Multiplayer is very bare-bones and feels like an absolute afterthought compared to the rest of the game. Again, an absolute insult to the game which literally coined the term "deathmatch". Pulled through by virtue of the combat again being pretty decent

Personal opinion but the soundtrack is chuggy djent shit that all blends together

All in all a 6/10 game I'd say. It was waaaaaaaaaaaaay overhyped at the time of its release, but it didn't really have any staying power so I can't really call it overrated overall.

It was fast-paced and insane, but never really gave me that classic Doom vibe. Overall an enjoyable experience though. It consistently got my heart rate up

It's pretty solid . It's not what I really wanted out of a Doom game but it did what it wanted to do pretty damn well.

It has an awesome combat system that rewards continuous movement, weapon variety, and experimenting with new tactics. The game never gets bogged down by its story, but it has a fairly good one that is seamlessly integrated into the gameplay.

Overall, this is the best FPS of the 2010s for me.

great game. probably the best modern FPS. imo it wasn't either too long or too short. also it one of the best optimized games on PC I've ever played if you're playing it on PC. it had no business being as smooth as it was with how good it looked

Easily one of the best FPS games in the past decade. Amazing gameplay, perfect pacing/length, amazing soundtrack, interesting plot/lore that's interesting but completely optional, and overall just one of the most finely-tuned games ever. If you get it on the PC, it can run amazingly even on potatoes.

Doom 2016 is a very good title and worth picking up. The gameplay is fast paced and thrilling. You have a nice selection of weapons to choose from when killing demons. The movement is fluid. Every gameplay system in the game just works seamlessly together. It's impressive. There is a story to the main campaign but honestly, don't play Doom for the story. However, the story is fine for what it is and it does its job well enough. My biggest complaint with Doom 2016 is that it can become repetitive eventually so I recommend playing it in short bursts instead of hours on end.

Multiplayer is okay but nothing to gush over. You'll play a few matches and that's about it. Most people generally don't care for it. I actually liked the multiplayer but my progress was deleted randomly so I quit. The Snapmap feature is okay. Again, nothing special but you may enjoy teaming up with other players and fighting hordes of demons on created maps.

Funny timing, I'm doing my 2019 playthrough of it right now.

This is the only current gen game that I actually go back and regularly play through over again. It's that good. A year will go by and I'll be like, damn, I feel like playing Doom again.
