Language learning is misunderstood AF, people bag on other people all the time for trying to learn basically any language that isn't English, etc.
Which is sad, because while yes, it is technically a lot of work, in a year's time or so one can reach a level of proficiency that will allow them to continually enjoy the language while learning it in a more natural way (i.e. reading) that also happens to take less effort. --- This is only here to keep me from being a sigless user. ... it is worth it. whatever i learned in the decades of playing Japanese text rpgs and sims is that google, trial and error, and results carry over to the next game. it takes time and effort to learn and videogames are a great interaction.
words become familiar. you begin to pick out certain words from the speech in game. later with just google and the game, youll learn the alphabets of the language. the japanese ingame text tools allow you to choose the correct diction and all. first thing i learned was to spell my name then i learned to see characters of my name in other words in a different language. phonetically sounding those parts got me to learn other characters in the alphabet. finally, i could learn the word as i see and hear it. im by far no expert and i still need someone to teach me the language. but i think i can handle the language gaming wise. learning anything requires the tools and interaction to apply the knowledge. it can be childrens books and a person fluent in the language, a classroom, or googling the language's alphabet and a videogame. --- You don't stop playing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop playing ... In the US since we consume a lot of Japanese media, llearning Japanese will improve your resume a lot. I bet a lot of your friends and even employers will ask you to translate something in Japanese. So yes learning Japanese does nothing but positive things for you. The question is are you willing to put the work in to learn Japanese?
