Mike Smith to the Oilers apparently happened, at least only for 2 mill salary + 2 mill performance bonuses, which means they'll only pay him 2 million dollars in total and can comfortably bench him around December. Maybe they won't miss the playoffs if they do that!

Read an article a few days ago about Toronto and Dubas being more than willing to do that but this is the first time I can recall seeing it in action as an offensive move, so heavily frontloaded...

Considering they have $11 million tied up in their goalies, yeah...

What would the bigger move be, flipping Lehner somewhere else? I mean it has to be, nobody would take Crawford plus he probably has a no move? Hmm....

Given Crawford's concussion history and the extensive time he's missed the last 2 years, it's probably going to be more of a tandem situation between him and Lehner. He does have a modified NMC so he still could get traded I guess but I doubt it. Perhaps after this year they'll resign Lehner to be the guy if he plays as well as he did last year. Could be their buying time to see if Delia becomes a quality NHL goalie too.

I dunno, seems weird at first but I can see the logic in it for us.

oh he definitely is, I should've been more clear when I said that. I thought Kerfoot was a winger?

At first I thought this was more space-clearing for Marner but even with the retained salary for Barrie, Kerfoot is an RFA due for a re-up. Any more than 2.5 mill AAV for him and there's no cap savings for Leafs on this move.

I guess there's only 1 year left on Barrie so him and Muzzin are both UFA after this season... shit's getting pretty real for this season.
