It's just an odd mishmash that totally confuses the themes of the timeline. 4/5 had the best art styles of the series IMO. That was their best part. Everything was all new and updated which coincided with the time skip. Now suddenly everything's retro? All because the half-committed community complained loud enough that it didn't resemble the old days. Like, yeah, it's been forever since those times, graphics have changed. Why are we dumbing everything down now? And it's not even a good dumbing down. They consistently over-promise and under-deliver in first party titles. It was starting to wane noticeably during the last generation, but this current one really went over the top and consoles and pc are sharing more games than ever. Especially since backwards compatibility is becoming less and less of a thing. Sure, it's neat seeing all these new reveals but I cannot be excited if I don't see what the game plays like. This is why it's silly to give Microsoft props for all the new reveals. The only reason why this happens is because they decided to go first at E3 but also, Sony didn't bother to show up so it's not like the devs had many options. Another problem is the most interesting games are all multiplats. I still have zero reason to buy the Xbox. Not when I can play all of these interesting games on other platforms. At least PS4 had the advantage of having games like Bloodborne, Persona 5, Spider-Man, God of War, Death Stranding, etc. Plus, we see Microsoft buying all of these studios but it's not like they're amazing studios to begin with. Therefore, there's not much excitement to be had. Ninja Theory showing off that shit show that was Bleeding Edge certainly didn't give me hope at least. Microsoft's problem is that they are always trying to one-up their previous E3 instead of just having a solid conference. When you boast about 60 games, don't include indie games in that number. If you're going to be the first to show off new games, try to have some enticing gameplay and not boring CGI. Like I said, Sony didn't even show up and they still did better.
