I need someone to explain what they mean by that; "only galar pokemon can be transferred to S/S" -- but, the only galar pokemon outside S/S is meltan/melmetal, so what's the big gap in logic I'm missing?

All Pokemon that arent in the Galar region Pokdex wont be transferable and the worry is that they might not be programmed in either.

To be fair, GameFreak has a bad history of not patching things in.

Didn't patch megas from ORAS into X and Y.

Didn't patch new Ultra Beasts and Zeraora into Sun and Moon, nor the new Necrozma forms or Z moves.

Weren't you not able to transfer anything not in the alola dex in sun and moon until a few months later? I know since gen 6, they've also had it so for the VGC you can only use native things with no breeding moves that aren't possible in-game for the first season. And even then, for this past gen it was that, then any gen works (but no USUM things) THEN USUM all gens.

Nope. The moment Pokemon Bank was released for X/Y and was updated for S/M/US/UM, you could transfer all your 'mons to the games. I don't recall an instance when you couldn't transfer pokemon unless they were blatantly illegal hacks, and even then the hack checks for Bank were, and still are, crap.

They said there would be an unconfirmed number and the rest are unobtainable. I'm thinking the Galar dex will have 300 or so old ones and an unknown number of new ones (probably no more then 110.)

It's bringing back a bunch of old ones, we don't know how many yet but I'd expect at least a few hundred old Pokemon.

Stop overreacting. Would you rather the whole game be delayed? Because I guarantee that's what would've happened if they hadn't made this decision to not include all the mons from Day 1.

Now I see why everyone calls the Pokemon fandom toxic. Seriously, today is the first time I've ever been ashamed to be a part of the same fanbase as these people. They will not stop crying over something that has a simple fix. It's incredibly sad.

They could have mentioned that at any point in time at any interview, to clear up the confusion/save face from backlash.

I mean, Gamefreak is a pretty shitty developer. People are finally calling them out on it.
A game franchise that sells itself on being about catching all pokemon should at the least allow you to do that. If the games are unable to let you catch all 900+ in them, and fans have already accepted that that's not really feasible, then they should let you transfer the ones you have.
This is made especially worse when considering that Pokemon Bank was sold as a way to future-proof your pokemon so it's just a slap in the face from a company that literally just slaps a fresh coat of paint on their games and sells them as new.

But really, I think the issue is the lack of communication.
If they are going to patch it, then tell us.
If they are wanting to address hacked pokemon, then tell us.
If they chose between delaying the games to include them or releasing it this year, then tell us.
If they want to limit our choices in this entry because they want to "fix" issues involving power creep, 'Z' moves/mega forms, data such as abilities or stats, etc. and want a "clean slate" going forward, then tell us.

But right now we're just getting canned responses and a bunch of people who would literally eat Gamefreaks shit telling the rest of us to stfu.

My concern is that this could turn into a softer version of Gen III's cutoff. I lapsed out of Pokemon for a few gens when that happened. (Still excited for S/S though-- it looks fantastic).

You can bring pokemon from the original Ruby / Sapphire (gen III) all the way up to Sun / Moon. It's a multi-step, convoluted process but it can be done. Pokemon Go and Pokemon Let's Go throw a little wrinkle in things, if you count those.

You know what's funny though? Most people's favorite Pokemon are basic and typical as fuck. I'm pretty sure most people's usual favorite will make it. Eeveelutions were already confirmed, Pikachu is obviously confirmed, most Gen 1 Pokemon are shoe-ins because their models already exist

They confirmed there will never be a patch.

Also yes, I would have rather had the games delayed. I don't NEED a new Pokemon game every November every single year. A delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game is forever bad.

Me personally? My original starter from the first time I played Sapphire has been sent from Sapphire all the way up to my copy of Ultra Moon. It literally turns 17 this December. Its a hasty Blaziken named Talon.

There have been interviews were they said this is the approach they will be taking from here on out.

With curated availability in each new game to match the setting. You can keep them all in virtual storage, and maybe take it out if it fits a particular games list.

Will be kinda funny watching which mons go for the longest stretch without being usable.

Oh, and all the models are already made. They are using the same ones, they were "future proofed", and you can tell just by looking anyway.
