This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if both members of said duo are named in the title of a game (Banjo-Kazooie, Sam & Max Hit the Road, etc).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Erdrick: fodder line (maybe being a bit optimistic here with him not being the default costume for Hero in Smash, but I want him to do well!)
Marth: low midcarder
Sophitia: mid fodder

Erdrick/Hero: Fodder Line - Link and Crono have long since proven that silent heroes can work on GameFAQs as long as voters care about their game/series. Dragon Quest isn't as well off in that regard, but it still has a notable fanbase of its own, and Smash Bros. probably helps too.

I will add the disclaimer, however, that Erdrick is one of the most pic-dependent characters we've tackled so far, in that most voters will need some assistance to associate him with the Dragon Quest series, especially if he's simply billed as 'Hero'. If voters don't make that association, he's likely to settle in the Mid Fodder tier.

Marth: Fodder Line - Ike has never done all that well even though people actually care about him. Marth only really has Smash Bros., and characters in a similar situation did not impress in CBX.

Sophitia Alexandra: Mid Fodder - I don't think SoulCalibur moves the needle anymore on GameFAQs, if it ever did, leaving her as not much more than a TJF platform in terms of strength.

As I said before, my nominations will be a lot more limited from here on out, and not every day. That doesn't necessarily mean I will stop nominating, even when it comes to interesting characters from a contest strength perspective.

Agree with Fodder Line for Erdrick. I don't know how well the DQXI hero (default costume in Smash) would do, or how popular his game is on Gfaqs. DQXI did well on the PS4 goty poll for 2018, but wasn't on the overall goty poll.

Marth I say is a Low Midcarder. He does get respect for being the primary character who brought Fire Emblem to the west, and as the first lord in the series. I think most fans of the series will vote for him, along with smash players who aren't sick of sword users.

Sophitia I say is High Fodder. She's in a similar position as Mai Shiranui of being a platform for TJF in a series Gfaqs doesn't care much about. While not as iconic as Mai, she has been present in Soulcalibur from the beginning, and there's definitely some nostalgia for SC1 and 2 that could get her votes.
