Or any controller? You have to manually press down on the power button (which is kinda awkward when it's docked because you don't want to press too hard) and then select the "power off" using the controller?

What the actual fuck. The Wii had a power off button on the wii-mote. How is this an overlooked oversight? Instead of a dedicated picture button, they should have maybe considered a power button?

It's such a small thing, I can't even. For some people's setup this is highly inconvenient since the console might be at the bottom of a tv stand and bending over every time to turn it on and off is a hassle that not even the old consoles of the 90s had (since you didn't have to hard press and wait to see if it actually turned on or not)

Sleep mode for the Switch is essentially it's "power down" feature. You're technically not meant to turn the console off, often. When you leave it in sleep mode, and when it's docked, it's not drawing power from the battery.

You can put the console in sleep mode three ways, without actually pushing the button.

It does draw power from the battery, just significantly less. Also another thing to note is that if you drain the battery it needs to charge for a few minutes before you can play it again, even docked.

Why is it meant to always be in sleep mode? Can't find anything in the manual about that. That's like saying the DS or whatever should always be in sleep mode and never actually turned off. Just curious if there's a reason you say that.

Why do you say it's not meant to be turned off? Sleep mode means it's still technically on, just in a more powered down state. But it's still on. It's still draining power isn't it? Also while I'm not sure about overheating, I know that with consoles it's best I turn them off since I might not get a chance to play them in many days, sometimes weeks on end, so obviously having them be in sleep mode and draining power and electricity isn't the best option is it?

its just kind of how electronics are now in 2019, sleep mode enables the switch to download updates and shit while it's not in use, enables faster bootup time, etc and there's no moving parts in the switch (i.e. mechanical hard drive) so nothing's really getting worn out. similar to how you probably next to never turn off your phone unless it's a quick reset or you're going on a plane or something

Stick drift you say? What's that? I got a pro controller for a traditional console experience, but didn't know that the switch came with a specific grip for the joycons. Ah well I'll benefit from the extra controller.

Hmm that's true I almost never turn off my phone, not even on the plane. But then again we tend to "upgrade" our phones every couple of years while for consoles I expect to have 10-20 year life on the same model, if not more since I don't upgrade consoles. Still have a working 64 (but admittedly the old consoles are much less complicated than they are now) and I hope my wii and ps3 continue to last for a long time.

What surprised me (in a good way) with the Switch is how tiny it was. The box was small but I had no idea how small the actual device really was, amazing that it can play these high quality games likes that recent zelda on such a small cartridge and device. So I'm hoping it's true that there aren't any internal devices that will be worn out from my leaving the console in sleep mode.

I don't know if it's supposed to be a handheld primarily but I'm gonna be using it exclusively in docked mode, and will pretty much never take it off the dock, for what that's worth.

It's interesting you bring that up. I remember when they were going on about "Wiiconnect24" at that popular game convention and how the console would get updates even when powered down. So you had it go from green (power on) to orange (powered down but with Wiiconnect24 still on) to red. You got red by going to the settings and turning of wiiconnect24, which I did within the first few months of owning a Wii. I don't like my consoles hooked up to the internet unless with my say so, since I prefer offline play for everything.

This time however they didn't even put that option. Still tentative about leaving it in sleep mode, I'm gonna see what the consensus is since there's several factors to consider on my end when it comes to leaving it powered on.

That actually doesn't happen. You put it in sleep mode and then plug it in, it'll show the battery icon then charge normally.

Well I got Bayonetta, Okami, and smash and mk. I'm less likely to play smash and mk because they're multiplayer and unlike 10 years ago in college, I don't really have video game friends to play them with :( . Won't play okami either since I already beat it on the wii and just got it again because okami.

So Bayonetta is the one I'll be playing along with zelda and mario odyssey, and I'm hoping that the grandia 2 port isn't vaporware since I want to try that game if it's better than the 1st like people claim.

No that still only suspends the system. The only way to actually power it down is to hold the button on the console itself.

I think it was done because you cannot power it on wirelessly.

Also it's not the first time features have been disabled. There's a long history of consoles cutting out shit that they were shipped with. The first major one was OtherOS

You would (should) only do it if you know you can't actually play it for an extended period of time.

Like maybe you're going out to a hunting lodge for several weeks where there's no power except for a single generator and a limited supply of fuel so you just leave anything unecessary at home.

That being said his main complaint doesn't sound the same as mine but I think I get what he's trying to say. He only mentioned my specific complaint at the very end and I feel that should have been the main focus of the video since I'm not sure what his main complaint was about.
