Confirm. Until googling, I had no idea what an egg cup was. I usually eat my eggs on/in toast or on a plate or in my hand if hard boiled.

Why would I want to eat a soft boiled egg? Why dirty a cup when I can just cook it a little longer, peel the shell, and eat?

...because a soft boiled egg tastes different to a hard boiled one. You're basically asking why some folk like their eggs different. As for making a cup dirty? Not wanting to wash up is the only valid reason. You still haven't answered how you eat soft boiled eggs without cups.

I dont eat soft boiled eggs. Like I said, I eat eggs:

Cooked in a hole in toast
Cooked by themselves and layered in toast
Cooked into an omelette
Cooked and layered on ham or a biscuit ala eggs Benedict
Microwaved in a bowl and eaten as is
Cooked and eaten by themselves
Cooked, deshelled, and eaten with a little salt

I know what egg cups are, but don't eat soft boiled eggs anymore. I eat eggs every way else, but soft boiled is disgusting.

Used to eat them in a cup with "soldiers" when I was a kid, but I'm also Canadian, so . . .

What is this with soldiers thing?
I love eggs but certain prep methods just take more effort compared to reward. Like soft boiled, over easy and poached. I like all of those, but hard boiled and scrambled is so much easier and my preferred method of prep.

If I happen to make a soft boiled egg, I slowly peel away the top and then just dig in with most of the shell in tact.

That is weird, but also weird that you figured it out as well.

I use an electric kettle everyday but for coffee since I brew with a v60. Most Americans probably don't have a major use for electric kettle so they would rather not have the extra appliance to deal with.

That is weird, but also weird that you figured it out as well.

It became common knowledge on this board pretty quickly given how random the copypasta are and the fact that many of them contradict each other. Dudes been doing it here for years and no one knows why

Americans don't typically soft boil their eggs, they fry them.

As for the electric kettle, I have one, but only if I am making Chinese tea or some kind of herbal mix. For bag tea, I just microwave a cup of water with the tea bag in it. Much easier. Most Americans drink coffee and use one of these:

Basically anything that wants hot water added. The couscous I eat just requires hot water added and left to sit for 3 minutes so it's much more convenient. I like options.

I mean we do other things with them as well (scramble, omelette, quiche, etc.) but fried is the most common because it is the quickest. If it takes me longer then 5 minutes to cook and eat my breakfast, then I can't eat breakfast.

I use it for:

- Noodles, Pasta, Rice and so on.

Basically anything that wants hot water added. The couscous I eat just requires hot water added and left to sit for 3 minutes so it's much more convenient. I like options.

Again, hot beverages aren't really something I like. As for the other stuff, I have a rice cooker, and you can do pretty much anything in that. Plus it has a timer so I can set it to cook while I am at work and come home to freshly made rice/pasta/quinoa/soup/whatever.

When I was a little kid my dumb parents taught me to make eggs by scrambling raw egg in a bowl and microwaving it. For a few years I thought thats just how eggs were cooked by everyone until I learned there were other ways to make them
