That's about my thoughts on it. I like docked play, but for those who use/would use it mostly as a handheld, this makes a lot of sense.

This is very tempting. It's more portable than a regular Switch, which is a huge plus for me. It only supports games that can be played in handheld mode, which is most but not all. Not being able to play on a TV sucks though. And that blue is the same color as my Vita.

And this is pretty much the final nail in the 3DS coffin. If the Switch is full on portable then there's no need for it anymore.

I kinda want it.
But I feel like you need to be able to dock for some games. Like smash bros where the small screen can be a hinderence. Especially on bigher stages and a zoomed out camera.

It's not bad. Love the turquoise colour. Don't know if I'll get one as of now.

lol @ the video's portrayal of Switch users, because I can totally see people biking to a skate park to play their Switch. Although my favorite is the person at the rock-climbing spot, all geared up, using their Switch while people in the background climb on the wall. Not sure if it's mixed messaging or Nintendo's way of encouraging people to do other shit with their time >_>

At any rate, I guess this really confirms that Nintendo won't be doing a separate handheld this generation. And, while this comes *closer* to being a functional handheld, it's still too damn big. The original unit was 9.4" x 4". The lite is 8.2" x 3.6". Compare that to the 3DS, which is 5.1" x 2.9", which was already pushing it a little.

Plus, for all of the features being stripped out or streamlined, you'd think they'd do better on price. Granted, I'm guessing it's more tactical shit where they don't want to price their original model out of the market.

It's about as portable as it was before, if not *less* portable. Keep in mind you could have taken the joycons off the old unit when transporting it, which takes the width down to roughly the same as the new unit. Otherwise it's still way too big for a handheld.

I will say that the battery life is listed as being a little better, though.

Damn it.... there goes my hope for a regular Switch getting that official price drop. I was waiting for that to happen + a sale before getting one. It's only going to be my Pokemon machine anyway. So now it looks like I'll likely have to settle for a Switch Lite.

I'm digging those colors but the missing features aren't worth it for me. It's not that much more portable either, sure it's smaller but you'd still need a case.

One of the things I really loved about the 3DS was that it folded up to protect the screens and you could stick it in your pocket. I literally carried mine around in my cargo pants for like 3 years.

They need to add a cover that covers the screen, then flips over to the back of the Switch when you're playing.

Looks cool, but I would rather stick with the original. As odd as it sounds I like my phones/laptops/portables bulky so the original switch is perfect for me. Plus while I almost never play in docked mode I would certainly like the option. Shame they couldn't fit an HDMI port on the bottom so you could at least plug it into your TV.

Still, seems like a great alternative, especially since it is $100 cheaper.

$300 is still the standard. Actual bundles are usually more.

Backwards compatible with what?

Good question, tbh. Obviously a cart-based system can't be compatible with the WiiU, but the lack of a second screen means it obviously couldn't be compatible with the 3DS either.

i only use the pro controller myself

now you have a system, and it's controls cant be replaced if something happens

walking around with a 300$ system makes it vulnerable and is one of the most unsocial displays I can imagine

While I like the portability of the Switch, the docking system is way more annoying than a dedicated console.

The 2DS was created for greater durability and to get it to a sub-100 price point. This accomplishes neither.

Yeah, the benefits are marginal and the tradeoffs are pretty big. You're losing a lot for the $100 discount and all you really get is a better battery life and a somewhat more stable system (since you don't have to worry about the joycons jamming somehow).
