That is a 12 year old blog. Was that stuff accurate back in 2007? Maybe. I wasn't made a mod for another two years. I can tell you that blog post does not represent any of my time on the staff at all.

If you want to see how out of date that blog post is to the current view site, look at this quote from it:

The site does not allow you to post a hyperlink. Why? Because someone might post porn. ????

The site does not have a Private Message system. Why? Because the mods would have a hard time monitoring what is being sent through the PM system. ???

The site does not allow people to edit their posts? Why? Because people will post a flame, or a link to ROMs/Porn, etc and then quickly edit it to not get in trouble. ???

He discusses how severe some mods are, suspending and karma bombing people, whereas others ignore toxicity just to escape the drudgery that is their daily queue. It literally explains exactly why rules are so arbitrary around here.

He also mentions how mods would get pissed at certain users and take action against them. Isnt that what people on here complain about to this very day?

And all the anonymity and secrecy. I mean, Error keeps trying to say its all tinfoil hat stuff, but an actual ex mod says it aint. They dont do right and Error downplays it.

The rules are the same but the severity of punishment varies based on post, context, and history. Moderation history matters.

If you're getting moderated a lot the best thing to do is cool off and tone it down until your history clears. I'd say tone it down longer than that but people gonna do what they're gonna do

If a username is referencing another user that is is viewed as a form of 'impersonation' and shouldn't be allowed at all no matter what. If a username is directly insulting another user then I'd say that is likely no good as well. If you see something like that feel free to mark the post and leave a note in the other field explaining you are reporting the username.

Don't follow the rules, your peers complain about your bad behavior, and after warnings you're going to get fired

You can't escape law enforcement unless you're the super wealthy. You can change a job (though much like wanting a job to pay the bills, people want a forum to socialize on and get attached)... It just may be a really bad fit. you can also leave this forum if the code of conduct is too difficult to abide by (it really isn't)

If you dont take crap seriously, it can have real world repercussions for those that get jerked around on here.

Error has a bad day at the office, decides he doesnt like someone, and creates the next scourge of the ps4 board. Have you seen how toxic that place is? They literally laugh at suicide over there. But one thing all the worst offenders agree with, is that a mod somewhere at sometime stepped on them, and they stopped caring about this site and the people in it.

Theres always gonna be trolls on the internet. But yall can prevent SOME of them just by changing your attitudes up.

I do like less restrictions on my posts. Even more so when the "rules" are so absurd. No wonder the mods logic is what it is if that's the hymn sheet they are reading from. I'm sure they make it up as they go along anyway. Still it is what it is and I'm certainly going to get moderated again at some point. It's amusing more than anything.

The user base skews older and older over time, IIRC. People stay here out of habit, and eventually just stop and move on with their lives. I don't think a problem getting new blood can be attributed to moderators.
