I hear Origins started a new trend and style. Maybe I'd like it.

Origins has Bayek, the new best character in the franchise so that wins by default.

I have all of them, but haven't played anything newer than III because I haven't finished that one yet and don't want to play any out of order.

I made one recently.

Basically I'm asking what is a good game to reinvigorate me after not loving AC II.

The only ones I haven't played are Origins and Odyssey but from everything I've read, Origins is a great jumping on point for any new or out of the loop players, with Odyssey being overall the better game.

Origins takes steps in the RPG direction, but Odyssey dives headfirst into it.

I like the mechanics and loop of Odyssey better, I think it does a better job of making you feel rewarded for your actions and making the world feel dynamic. It's a game I've put ~110 hours into and will certainly play more of.

Origins does a better job of telling its story imo, but combat could be kind of a slog at times. I beat it after 40 hours and I'm glad I did, but I probably won't be picking it back up.

Hated it, personally. Super dated, and half of it is unskippable boring ship combat

I have played through the whole series this past year and Origins is definitely worth picking up, especially the expansion pack "Curse of the Pharaoh". The story and imagery and gameplay are all outstanding, and the imagery in the Curse DLC is great. The other DLC was kind of half-assed imo, it was very short and didn't really expand on the story at all.

I am playing through Odyssey right now, I'm about 15-20 hours in. So far I haven't found the story anywhere near as compelling as in Origins, but they've fleshed out the RPG aspect and you can actually make choices that impact the world as you progress, which I really enjoy. It streamlined some of the mechanics, so you don't need to spend twenty hours just hunting animals and crap to upgrade your gear. Combat was like a lateral adjustment, not too much of an improvement but not a step back either. AI is better in some respects and dumber in others. And I like how they developed the bounty hunter system (it's no longer a limited number of mini-bosses roaming the map in fixed locations now), and the assassination web has been fleshed out.

But I really love the sense of adventure that both games have. They are very different from the past games in that the combat feels more like in an action-adventure game a la the Legend of Zelda series or Witcher 2/3, and the worlds are way more open.

Black Flag is fun, but it's more of a pirate fantasy set to AC mechanics more than anything else. I enjoyed being a pirate and stealing resources and stuff to build up my island outpost, but beyond that it's kind of a hollow experience and the Assassin story is kind of non-existent.

Immediately following that was Assassin's Creed: Rogue, which serves as a prequel to AC3 (so it gives back story to many of the characters there). I thought it was much better than Black Flag - the story was far more focused, there was more to achieve throughout the world, it was visually more appealing just because of the diversity of the landscapes and climates, and it had similar ship mechanics.

Origins was good, Odyssey was better imo. Both were fun to beat and my buddy who I gameshare with just got the season pass for Odyssey so I'm gonna try it out.

I just liked the combat system in Odyssey better and I liked Greece over Egypt. Odyssey also had you make decisions in some quests that effects other things, you can bang people, and Kassandra is bae.
