As gently as I can say this, if you lack the social skills to make friends, you very likely don't have the social skills to succeed on the dating/hook-up scene either. But people skills can be learned like anything else, and there's no shame in that. There's tons of great resources to help, plus things like life/dating coaches who can give one-on-one advice and support. So my advice would be to search out websites/books/people to learn from, and practice what you've been taught by striking up conversations with strangers you meet. Talk to the cashier at the grocery store, or people standing in line with you at a restaurant--it doesn't matter. These are low-risk ways of gaining experience interacting with people, since you don't have anything to lose if the conversation doesn't turn out the way you wanted. Don't be scared of failure--it's not fun, but that's how you learn. Just keep at it, and you'll get more confident as time goes on.

You can chat with the cashier assuming their isn't a huge line, yeah if 4+ people are waiting chatting with the cashier is a dick move.

Lose some weight (eat properly & physical exercise), take care of yourself (hygiene-wise), go out (meet people) & don't act crazy (like in the clip).

All these things will make a big difference. I'm not trying to bully the guy or anything, but the sometimes the truth is harsh.

That's not a one size fits all because some of the people I know are cashiers and they flat out have said they hate awkward silence more.

Shoot I've had cashiers literally hold me up to talk to me when there wasn't a line. I was done with my purchase, they kept talking to me about stuff. I literally had to tell one that talks to me randomly that I had to go because they were having a pretty long convo with me about all kinds of stuff.
