The Bushland Independent School District Board of Trustees have decided that kids in 7th to 12th grade will be required to take drug tests if they want to participate in certain school privileges as Superintendent Chris Wigington insist the school district doesn't have a drug problem but says they are trying to stay "ahead of the curve" He said "We've discussed drug testing policy for about a year now and the board wants to be proactive. They want our kids to be drug free environment, we want our kids to make great decisions" The talked about this for a year before deciding to make it policy as Students will undergo a mandated drug test if they want to be in sports, gaming club, yearbook and other clubs as well as campus parking permits Testing will be conducted by certified contractors with a focus on alcohol, marijuana, cocaine, amphetamines, meth, heroin and opiates Students who test positive won't face academic repercussions or suspensions but said that these are privileges, not rights but consequences of testing positive is suspension from these activities will be for a YEAR Confidentiality is a big component in this policy as the parents and designated district officials will be alerted if they test positive for any of the banned drugs including alcohol and marijuana They will receive RANDOM DRUG tests around 10 academic school days THROUGHOUT the year so it is a continuous testing Wigington said "Great kids make bad decisions everyday and what we want to do is make sure our kids have the opportunity to make mistakes, but ocme back and make amends. I guess that's a way to put it". Offenses between middle school and high school will not be cumulative, so students have a clean slate starting 9th grade Do you approve of random drug testing for kids who want to do extracurricular activities? --- call me mrduckbear, sweater monkeys.
