I was not on board with this list. Flayn is awesome, and she's probably not a child (I have been going through so many routes/supports to try to see what her deal is, I'm guessing she's a manakete but no one outwardly says it??)

but yeah as long as Bernie no 1, we good. I had her in all three playthroughs and she kinda sucked in all of them no matter what class I made her and I love her.

Did you do the paralogue with Seteth/Flayn about protecting some holy monument on a beach? I don't know if it's only for the Golden Deer or happens in all three routes.

Also yeah, no actual romance happens until part two so even the younger characters are still adults.

It happens in all three, but it doesn't really clarify what they are. Just that they're father and daughter

Bernie/Seteth support seems to imply Seteth is actually St. Citothol but it doesn't really get more clear than that.

Post Black Eagles Chapter 15

If you're on the Edelgard route, you can ensure Seteth and Flayn survive by defeating them with Byleth. They peace out and run away, much to Hubert's amusement.

So an odd quirk this run is the fact that my first recruit was honorable knight Ingrid. And now the team is invading her home. Ingrid acknowledges that she's a traitor and her reasoning is that...she believes in Byleth? Not quite the most well written reason, but points for showing the inner conflict.

I went from Classic Normal Black Eagles to Casual Hard Blue Lions. There's definitely a lot more satisfaction here. I have to be more careful, but it's doable. Combat Artes actually matter a lot, while on normal only the long range bow stuff had any need to exist.

Its awesome until wyverns show up and I have to figure out how to hide 5 people who are all going to get one shot killed

In all serious though, the game seems exceptionally well balanced for how powered up everything is. I thought meteor and warp were totally broken, and they are. And thats why the game suddenly spawns a general on the other side of the map that will make you lose if it is able to move to a spot 3 turns away.

Im kind of digging it. Warping edelgard into the middle of 5 guys isnt a cheese strategy, its the only viable one

There's almost a slight sense of dissapointment when a character is able to one-shot someone early on.

I'm sure those will be a BLESSING when managed later.

First time ever playing and FE on hard.

Difficulty in FE is always wonky to figure out. In 3H, "Normal" seems to translate to "for first-timers" where Hard is "for people who've played FE before."

Whereas in RD, those two were Easy and Normal respectively. Hard was "for people who like tedium."

I finally hit a point where I don't feel like I really need to do much in the monastery and can focus on raising Byleth's stats, and there are only two important battles so I can even explore three times this month to do it... so of course all the knights are away on missions.

Chapter 9 spoilz dang they really knew how to fake you out with that death. I was thinking "ok so let's rewind time" and then he rewound time and I was impressed, but then the other dude pops in and he still dies.

Also after seeing Flayn's B support with Byleth, I see what Santa means. Something really does seem up with her.

Skipped out on a Rare Monster Paralogue because it was on lots 'o fish day

Went from 0 progress A-rank prof to A+ rank that day... which was like >8000k exp of fishing, with 15 fish left over! Finally I can devout all my monastery time to raising stats now.

Wish I had know you can't use renown to unlock stuff you hadn't already unlocked before, would have duped some points into getting Byleth to D+ in skills I don't need justfor recruiting.

For anyone that's gotten far into the game: (ie Post Time Skip Spoilers)

How we feeling about Edelgard? Justified in her whole starting-a-war thing? Warmongering tyrant?

If nothing else, it's a bold ass move to make the lord that got the most marketing push the de facto antagonist for the most of the game's content.

Pretty much the only character so far who never really seems to get away from first impressions is Lin.

Also, I'm very much not a fan of the Black Eagles route. I'll go more into detail when I'm not just finishing the game up at 5 am.

I'm nearing the end of Black Eagles and while I've enjoyed it, there are some bones I've got to pick with it.

There is a glaring lack of polish with Edelgard's route. Scenes that got animated cutscenes in other routes are reduced to CG stills. There's a truly egregious scene where Arundel pops up then "Oh BTW this city we just captured just got blown the smithereens." Like, huh?

The writing to even get to Edelgard's route is extremely suspect. Let's be real here - there's really no rational reason to side with her at the moment you are given the option to, since she just attacked you and your class. And now I'm supposed to believe it makes sense to protect her? Maybe only if because the other option being kill is too extreme, but damn is that a stretch.

It's a damn shame getting there is clunky, because polish issues aside, the Edelgard route itself is pretty good. It's what Fates Conquest should've been from a story perspective. Pity it really seems like it was a late addition.

And from all respects the Church route is a strictly worse Golden Deer route, so why even bother?

They're radically different in terms of post-time skip, including the final boss. The final boss is Nemesis whereas in the Church Route it's Rhea but for different reasons.

Oh, if you're down for going through all four routes, by all means. If you don't have as much time or desire to plunge into four playthroughs though, there are cuts you can make.

hector sure, but ike? Dude has the personality of a brick. I guess I can see it from the whole "**** nobility" angle he's got going on, but such a give no ****s personality can work against him.

This may be the first time I've seen an anti-Ike take haha

Edit: Also on the subject of a dislike of nobility, I love how in Hanneman's C-support with Dorothea he suddenly starts talking about class struggle and the oppression of the proletariat, that was pretty good.

FE:3H does not try to be all that subtle that the end goal of some of the supports is that you want to get into your students pants

I wouldn't really say he starts from a position of prejudice. The worst he does is calling a laguz sub human, and even that is because he didn't know they were actually called laguz and that sub human was bad. He does learn and then fights against it, which is fair, but that's not some big personality shift like it would be for someone like Soren, who actually is racist against laguz and isn't hesitant to show it, but gradually mellows out over both games. Ike is more just a good guy who applies the same principles he's always had to new situations. The surroundings he finds himself in change, but Ike himself never really does.

They are hilariously unsubtle in Edelgard's route. I haven't seen anything as pushed as Byleth/Edelgard since FE7 and Eliwood/Ninian
