Now that I have given up on Octopath, I return to my enormous backlog and look for certified classics that I've yet to put significant time into. Winner gets my precious attention.

The two I want to beat most are winning!

Some background:

Jak 2 & 3: played the original Jak and Daxter about 17 years ago, really enjoyed the aesthetic
No More Heroes: never played... just realized it wasn't an RPG tonight (I think I had it mixed up with TWEWY)
Batman: Arkham City: loved Arkham Asylum way wayyy more than I thought I would (game of the generation contender imo); haven't played the sequel at all
Bionic Commando: played some of it on emulators when I was a lad, but never really tried to get too far into it
Diddy Kong Racing: played this the most... but could only get so far before it started kicking my ass. I will unlock everything eventually

If the aesthetic is what you remember about J&D, 2 and 3 are nothing like that.

The crew time travels to a grimdark future and it turns into a GTA style hub world with Ratchet & Clank style weapon platforming levels

If you fancy yourself an NES connoisseur Bionic Commando is one of the greats on the system.

Otherwise I agree

Yeah I think that's what stopped me from ever playing them. The original J&D had that amazing Pacific island look right around when i was also playing FFX, so I have a fondness for it.

Kind of funny that the trilogy mimics the Crash Bandicoot PSX trilogy though, based on that description.

And then they even followed up the trilogy with a Kart racer just like Crash

Sadly there was no Uncharted Kart (Unkarted?) after that trilogy.

Still hope for The Last of Us Kart (The Fast of Us?)

For one thing, completion means unlocking a character, T.T.

Arkham City I guess. It's not as good as asylum but still a really solid game

Loved the first Jak & Daxter, couldn't even get through Jak 2

The first No More Heroes is pretty weak tbh, that said it's worth getting through to play the second

Arkham City has one of my favorite plots in a video game. So that's what I voted for

DKR is a lot of fun, but it gets pretty damn hard after a bit

I really liked Arkham Asylum but I really wasn't feeling the open world of City. Didn't get very far in the game.

Yeah Asylum vs. City is really tough. I always flop between the two

Asylum is really balanced in all the aspects but is still an amazing experience.

City on the other hand is a lot more skewed. The open world and riddler trophies took a bit of a step backwards, but the story, level/boss design and combat improvements all go above and beyond. Granted it does take a while to get to those which can understandably be off putting to a lot of people.

Definitely Bionic Commando. It's one of the most iconic NES games, and yet there are still people who fancy themselves as gamers who only have played Marios, Zeldas, a few other Nintendo brand games on it.

This should be fun.

Uhh you should play Arkham City asap, especially if you liked Asylum. It's different with the open world but still a pretty great experience.

Can only speak for Jak and Arkham from this list, and Bionic Commando maybe if it's the NES version but I assume it isn't, so Arkham.

Arkham City was good fun, but as someone else said, I like Asylum more.

I also loved the first Jak game, nice classic platforming, but the second, ugh! I've tried multiple times to get into it, but in the end I just said screw it. It's bleak and frustrating. Maaaaybe I'll try Jak 3 at some point even if I don't finish 2, but in any case, playing Jak 2 at this point is probably not going to be much fun, so I'd go with Arkham City.
