I think RPGs offer the most room for conversation judging by how complex, long, and customisable they are. With long games like RPGs you're typically confronted with "where do I go next" more than in a platforming game, fighting game, FPS or something else.

GameFAQs leaned more towards RPGs in the past because they tended to be the genre that creates the most demand for FAQs/guides. Nowadays this site doesn't get many new members so it's mostly still that same older crowd.
Though really it's not RPGs that are the most popular thing on this site, it's Nintendo games. The GameFAQs hierarchy is like, Nintendo > released in 90s > RPG >>> everything else --- Meow! ... Copied to Clipboard!
