This is a topic to rate the contest strength of potential newcomers in the current contest environment.

I will pick the characters to rate and discuss for each day from user nominations - whoever the 3 most nominated characters are at that time. If there are more than 3 I will pick randomly. You can nominate any number of characters at any time, but you cannot nominate the same character twice.

All characters who were present in the 2018 Character Battle will NOT be eligible. Otherwise you can nominate any character that has appeared in video games; even comic book characters. This will exclude real-life athletes who have only appeared in long running sports series, however I will accept those who have their own games such as Shaq. I will accept nominations for iconic gaming duos too, if both members of said duo are named in the title of a game (Banjo-Kazooie, Sam & Max Hit the Road, etc).

Each day will have a separate topic, and nominations will carry over. As far as actually rating the character's contest strength; I ask that users rank a characters potential strength with one of the following qualifiers - LAW Fodder, Low Fodder, Mid Fodder, High Fodder, Fodder Line, Low Midcarder, Midcarder, High Midcarder, Near Elite, Elite, LAW Tier (capable of beating Link). I will average all the ratings given to a character to come up with their final ranking. I have included a highlighted entrant from Character Battle X on each tier of the strength rankings below, to provide a baseline for each.

Note that LAW Fodder is meant to be a tier reserved for the weakest possible characters to put into a contest. A character will only be placed there if at least 3/4ths of the voters for that day agree on the LAW Fodder rating, and no ratings above Low Fodder are given. If either of those conditions are not met, the character will not be eligible for the LAW Fodder tier.

Optimus Prime is mid fodder. Nostalgia be damned, I don't see GameFAQs having a large Transformers fanbase, plus the movies beyond the first one were pretty much the laughingstock of the decade.

Urameshi: Low fodder. If Persona characters are usually Mid Fodder, I can't see an anime character doing any better, no matter how popular his series is. And if people are voting based on game presence, then it's not going to go well for him. Mid Fodder is arguable however, but I can't see anything higher.

YHVH: Low fodder. I don't think this guy is in Persona, just mainline SMT, and Persona's the one with the larger fanbase around these parts. I don't think anyone is going to particularly care about him, but at least he looks kinda cool.

I'll say Mid Fodder for Urameshi. The YY Hakusho games that made it to NA did not do well, but the anime was still very popular during its run on Toonami/AS and was probably watched by many on Gfaqs.

Low Fodder for YHVH. Might be a different story if he appeared in the Persona games.

Agree with Mid Fodder for Optimus Prime. The major Transformers animated series are all either too old or too young for proper nostalgia (or have early 3D animation). Optimus seemed to be fine in the movies, but most everything else made sure to put people off from the series. I think there might have been a decent Transformers game at some point, but you never hear anything about Transformers games nowadays.

I agree with Low Fodder for Urameshi and YHVH.

For Optimus Prime, High Fodder feels right to me. The original animated series fits right into that ideal 80s nostalgia zone, and I think it's much more likely that he'd beat Claire Redfield than risk losing to Noctis.

Yusuke - low fodder. About the right time period for this site but hes had nothing to keep relevant since, no good or popular games released in the u.s., and unlike Pokemon/dbz/etc his show wasnt on the local stations for universal u.s. viewing opportunity, you had to have Cartoon Network.

I mean hes certainly not chaos fodder so...
Okay for real though hes not gonna get many lulz votes like satan and he doesnt sound like a very likable guy even if youve played the games hes in. Would have no issues taking Caim to beat him.

This isnt great but I figure transformers has a lot more non-80s strength than Tmnt. And its still a tier below where we ranked Leonardo and 2 below Donatello

also not that this helps prime much since his role is minimal but beast wars is the best, early 3D animation or no.
