I can think of two scenes scarring enough to fit here, but I'll assume it's the first one: child decapitation
What are the other ones? Naked people in the attic? Mom on the ceiling? Mom banging her head?

The entire ending sequence. The aforementioned scene is far more jarring but the ending has a little bit of everything traumatic just without the heart stopping intense imagery of that scene

I disagree. Peter sitting in the car afraid to look behind him, Annie's screams in the morning, and the really long smash cut to the head. That whole sequence was extremely hard to sit through in the theater and just left a lingering dread throughout

I do agree, that was definitely a more powerful scene, but for me the ending just brought everything together in such a perfect way, the grand culmination of all the tension building from the beginning released all at once in an orgy of terror. that scene was one of the building blocks and the origin of the tension that finally erupted forth in the ending.

Ari Aster is a master of dread. I felt the same way throughout Midsommar, even when there wasn't something freaky happening on screen I still felt a lingering feeling of dread, like something was "wrong." Very effective horror.

unless you count Sal as a horror film, in which case the final scene.

Care to spoil the scene? I've heard some disturbing things about the film so I doubt I'll ever watch it.

It's probably more jarring than you've even been led to believe, but I still think it's a very superbly-executed & historically-significant movie that's worth watching - if you really don't think you'll be able to stomach it, though (which is completely fair), here it goes (I think it goes without saying for anyone else reading this but cw: graphic violence):
So up until this point in the movie, the disturbing content has mostly just been the sexual depravity, cruel taunting of the teenage victims & forced feces eating; still quite disturbing, but the only scenes of graphic violence have been the remains of a girl who attempted to escape & had her throat slit - her wounds sewn back up - and a scene where a girl is fed food with nails hidden inside... the climactic scene changes things drastically. The teenagers have been implied their penultimate fate - and attempted to thwart it through means such as flattering their aggressors, betraying each other by telling the libertines other victims' secrets, etc. but now the time has finally come, and only a few victims have been decisively spared.

After a bizarre wedding ceremony which I couldn't begin to explain to you outside the context of the film, the final act of brutal torture & murder is initiated. Each of the victims get their own selective form of torture/execution, which includes:
-A boy having a machete stuck behind his eye before gouging it out.
-A girl getting scalped (easily the most graphic death).
-A boy having his tongue cut off.
-A boy having a flame taken to his penis.
-A girl being forced over two candles to be burned by her breasts (maybe the hardest death to watch because of the victim's established vulnerability and innocence).
-A boy being branded countless times in succession.

Occasionally the torture shots are broken off by shots of the libertines/their collaborators mocking the victims in various ways, such as dancing together, performing mock executions on each other, etc. One collaborator, secretly working with them reluctantly out of fear for her own life, witnesses the events from the mansion and is so overwhelmed with despair/remorse that she jumps to her death. This composition is played over the climax scene, which is basically the finishing touch to giving it an unparalleled "Hell on Earth" feeling:

I remember I got real fucking scared by some shitty CGI in the terrible sequel to the first Children of the Corn when I was like 8? The kid that ends up becoming the main vessel for Satan or whatever ends up lost in the corn as a hole opens beneath him and he goes plummeting through some shitty looking awful cyberspace trip and he's screaming and shit as his body gets torn to pieces and re-put back together as, I guess, what was good in him was left in the void and the part of him that was put back together to be EVIL was sent back to Earth?

Like I said, it's shitty but it absolutely scared the fuck out of me when I was a little kid and I had nightmares for months.

"They'll come home and say I murdered her by choking. They'll say, 'You hated her, Rachel,' and that was true. And they'll say, 'You wanted her to be dead,' and that was true too. And then she died. And I started to scream. I ran out of the house screaming, 'Zelda's dead, Zelda's dead, Zelda's dead!' and the neighbors came out to look and they thought I was crying. But you know something? I think, maybe, I was laughing."

All the actual horror stuff with zombies and shit didn't really bother me as a kid. This was the scene that stuck with me.

House on Haunted Hill: One of the characters was a cameraman, and he was filming around the place. On camera, he caught a doctor performing surgery. He put the camera down and there was nothing there. He put the camera back up to his face and the doctor looked up at him with his cold, dead stare. IIRC, the character then got destroyed.

Thanks for the run down. I'm fine reading the stuff but I don't have much interest in seeing it. Most torture porn is easy for me to watch because it's mostly over the type (Saw, Hostel) but films based on history or real life events are usually a pass for me. The Girl Next Door was one of the hardest movies for me to watch mostly due to the fact that it was based on true events. Really disgusting shit.
