You can recruit ghosts as a temporary 4th party member on the ghost train in FF6.

And Auron is dead in FFX.

@bladegash those are not final fantasy games
those are saga games. when they got localized the translators threw the name final fantasy on them to trick children into buying them cause that was the one jrpg that really sold well in the west at that time
they also did the same thing with the first seiken densetsu game be renaming it final fantasy adventure

Learn an ability that inflicts zombie and attack your party members.

They are now undead.

Incorrect. The original JP title was Final Fantasy Gaiden. It wasn't until the second game that it became it's own series. Final Fantasy Adventure is an ironic case of something being translated correctly.

Define "dead."

FFII: Pretty sure you can get Minwu back after his sacrifice. That might only be for a bonus dungeon in the GBA version though.

FFVII: No idea why people think Vincent is undead. He doesn't age (thanks to being experimented on) and sleeps in a coffin, but I think I would also lock myself away for thirty years if the love of my life preferred to shack up with Hojo instead of me.

FFVIII: There's a popular theory that Squall is dead. Not really the same as being undead.

FFX: Auron. Tidus too, sorta kinda maybe.

So, FFX is the only one I know to definitively have a dead person in your party.

I'm specifically talking about someone who takes damage from healing spells

I've always taken it to mean "you're alive, but shouldn't be." It has a connotation of unholiness and aberration.

The basic idea is that biologically, you shouldn't be alive but you somehow still are. Zombies can survive with basically no body. Vampires lack heartbeats and bloodflow. Liches are desiccated corpses. Skeletons should just fall apart.
