Idk. For me it seems to be based on how long they been here. On my grandads (from my moms side) family they came over from Germany in thr earlyish 1900s. My grandmother from the same side no fucking clue but theyve been in this country longer.

Dont know about my fathers side of thr family at all.

I only have the most vague idea where my relatives came from. I'd probably have to visit every country in Europe for starters.

I'm part English, Scottish, Irish, French, German, Norwegian, and Native American.

My most recent ancestor to come to Canada was one of my great grandmothers. And she was born in the USA.

In other words, no, but yes.

The thing is if we are honest with ourselves, we know our families are not Native to N America and we know the land was and is stolen land. We have to admit that and the country was also founded on slavery, war, murder, deceit, backstabbing, etc. It's not pretty but it is the truth and we as a country have never dealt with nor came to grips with slavery and the awful pathetic legacy of that.

Not even sure what that's supposed to mean. At this point, many Americans have been here long enough that their families come from America. Not to mention that some of their ancestors have less history in the land that they emigrated from because they were newer to that region than their descendants have been to America. And if you follow that tree back far enough, everybody comes from Africa.
