And didn't china sign an agreement saying they'd respect its liberties after it came back to china?

The reason is, why is the world looking to the US to stop whatever is going on between china and hong kong while nobody tells the UK to do shit? It's their mess. Are they even talking about it?

The UK populace is too busy being entertained by the lovable antics of their new Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, to care about some former colony halfway around the world.

Frankly, Hong Kong should deal with whatever problem they have on their own. Pull a Taiwan if they want independence from China, or whatever else.

The entire agreement was a way for the UK to save face. If the UK and China didn't come to an agreement back then, Deng Xiaoping was going to take Hong Kong by force and the UK was and still is in no position to do anything about it

They were but even back then the UK couldn't take on China without US assistance which the US was extremely not inclined to give.

Care to explain which countries and in what conflict did foreign intervention play a role in Taiwan independence.

Because it doesn't exist.

Taiwan never gained independence my uninformed friend. In 1945 it was handed over to the ROC who relocated the government there in 1949. The following year President Truman intervened:

In these circumstances the occupation of Formosa by Communist forces would be a direct threat to the security of the Pacific area and to United States forces performing their lawful and necessary functions in that area.

Accordingly, I have ordered the Seventh Fleet to prevent any attack on Formosa.

A defense pact between the US and ROC was then signed five years later.

When you get yourself into an argument about something you know nothing about, stop digging.

Formosa was never granted independence, it was handed over to the ROC after WWII. During the civil war the ROC lost most of mainland China to the communist forces and was forced to relocate the government to Taipei. This is basic shit you don't know.

Anyway, your original point that the ROC has no foreign assistance is completely wrong. The US intervened in 1950 to protect the ROC from an invasion by the PRC.
