Eh, I probably should've saved him since he'd have a better shot at longer-term success than Zack but I liked them both. Got him through boots at least.

Still (hot take incoming) the #2 pound-for-pound FF character with how great he is for how little appearance time he gets.

Vayne I'm not sure actually is in the game I'm pretty sure he just orchestrates more important things than what the gane is doing and randomly shows up as the final boss like Zeromus but not a flying fluffy evil ball

That's a bit unfair tbh, coming from a fellow Genesis fan too. Vayne isn't on Zemus levels of bad guys definitely. He's in the game, probably not quite as much as he should be but he definitely is in the active storyline.

I like XII but all I really remember about Vayne is basically the intro to the story in Rabanastre... and then the final boss fight

don't have anything against him... but I don't have anything about him. I'll take Vayne over Dysley tho (I say this since I played those games for the first time back to back sooo)

I fail to see what Genesis and Vayne have in common other than you liking em! Genesis is very prevalent in Crisis Core!

As someone who loves Balthier and Fran...I fully admit that FF12 is a...very BORING game. The color pallet is all pastels and browns, and the cast is extraordinarily flat. Vaan is an annoyance who is somehow the main character. Penelo is likable, but mostly ignored. Fran is a great straight man to Balthier, but I admit that she's the background character in that relationship. Ashe is "generic rebellious princess", Balthier is "generic lovable rogue" and Basch is "generic older guy party member". The supporting cast is completely forgettable as well, which a lot of the bad guys being generic armor-wearing peeps. It's just a very forgettable game overall.

I remember Vayne gives a speech at the beginning and Vaan is like "arghblargh" and I'm like "this is gonna be a cool villain"

then he doesn't do much until midgame, when he's standing over the dead body of his father, whom he murdered in the sunset - a very cool scene. so I was like "okay he hasn't been around much but NOW he's gonna be a cool villain"

then, uh, I think he directs the army in the final Star Wars fight?

If we actually got to participate in all the interesting stuff the game would be great. Unfortunately everything important happens away from the party.

I mean how are those comments any different from others? The newer games by default have more characterization and personality to their characters, in general terms at least. Yet the 2D games generally reign supreme even though they'd be more along the lines of generic tropes as characters.
