Yes, though at a real dealership you shouldn't need to do it more than a couple times to get close to the price you want, and it shouldn't take you all day, either.

Some of them are pretty straightforward and don't do the haggling game, the price they offer is close to the lowest they would be willing to go and you can look at the sales order to see it (though I guess they could have a fake sales order but that seems... illegal or unethical and too much work). --- FFXIV: Herzog Erislieb (Cactaur) | RS3: UltimaSuende . 99 WC/Fish/Cook/Fletch/Div/Mining. 88 Smithing ... My favorite was how, back in 2016, there was a 2015 Passat that was listed for $15,000+. It already had 30k miles on it (was a rental vehicle in a previous life). Talked them down to 13,035 and then talked them down to an even 13,000.
That dealership was a pain in the ass though, they didn't understand how registration in other states worked so they changed my address and took forever to get my plates. --- FFXIV: Herzog Erislieb (Cactaur) | RS3: UltimaSuende . 99 WC/Fish/Cook/Fletch/Div/Mining. 88 Smithing ... Dunno if it's still around, but those that want a new car could save a lot of bullcrap by going through Costco. The other nice benefit of that route is that you never set foot in the sales area. You instead deal directly with the Fleet Manager. Otherwise, as mentioned, sales folks will try to sneak in financing, 'insurances' and other charges at the last second.

This happened when I bought my truck and I asked the salesman if the manager could come out so I could talk to them directly and make a deal since the manager was calling the shots. The sales guy started babbling about the manager being busy etc etc. so then I said okay well nows your chance to make a deal and show the manager that youre a go getter. Sometimes acting like a complete moron is more effective than trying to be a hard ass. It came pretty naturally to me and since I was never gonna see that guy again I had no issue staying a hour and a half after they closed to keep going back and forth. I dont get how to haggle You're not haggling the monthly payment, because the monthly payment is based on the total loan amount, the duration of the loan and the interest rate (which is based heavily on your credit score and the duration of the loan). It's really just the total cost of the car. What it boils down to in my opinion is figuring out which car you want, figure out the average value of a car in that condition, figure out your bottom line (be reasonable). It helps to have multiple options and not be set on one car specifically. When you go to the dealership, don't go alone, take a friend or two. Don't engage in BS games with the dealer (the second they say, "Oh that's the Special Online Price you can only get that if you printed the listing out!" or "We can negotiate the price once you fill out this form with your number, address, e-mail address" just walk away because those dealerships are just there to play games and take advantage of people). When you're testing the car out, test *everything* - AC, heater, heated seats, windows, radio, power outlets/lighters. Look at the engine. Look for damage to the seats or missing details inside, etc. After the test drive you just have to be a little cool, collected and patient. Tell them a cost that's close to what your desired limit is, when they counter-offer tell them you'll think about it and go sit in the car a little bit, or maybe tell them you'll come back later to check it out. When you return, tell them you'd take it if they took the processing fee off. They'll say they can't, but you can suggest they deduct that amount from the final cost. And... that's about it. Some dealerships will show you the purchase order for the car so you can see what they actually paid for it. Don't know if those are always legitimate but it's still something to consider, sometimes they just won't go too far negative. And if you're able to pay in cash you can talk the cost down even lower if you suggest you have a terrible credit history and are probably going to finance through them (if you don't mind stretching the truth a little bit >_>). Also not guaranteed but worth a shot sometimes. --- FFXIV: Herzog Erislieb (Cactaur) | RS3: UltimaSuende . 99 WC/Fish/Cook/Fletch/Div/Mining. 88 Smithing ... Copied to Clipboard!
