On the other hand, straws are nonetheless part of the plastic problem, and really fairly easy to stop using (for the fully-abled), so there's no reason not to get on board with the effort to cut down on their use. It's just important to also keep generating demand for other plastic reduction strategies on top of that, rather than resting on one's laurels after buying a reusable straw. My friend said something about them blocking a system in the treatment plants, but other than that I dont think I see the issue. The places that give them out the most should be required to recycle them. So I have to keep the bottle around for months until I gather enough to warrant returning them so I can get like $2-3 back? Not worth it.
