Is almost 73,000 dollars a year a livable wage? Considering 90% of America makes below 50,000 then I would say yes.

This just seems like another one of those trolling threads about salary though. Either it's done to brag, or it's one of those "bootstrap" conservatives trying to be an ass claiming if you aren't making at least a 100,000 dollars a year then you are poor and stupid, while at the same time not understanding even the most basic economic principles.

If you live in some small city and get roommates rent can be like 200 a month.

Maybe, but it's like saying 25 cents an hour is livable if you still live in your mom's basement and don't pay for anything..
I consider livable as "I can afford to live on my own without needing to depend on others for rent or bills"

I'd say that having a medical or automotive catastrophe not bankrupting you while being able to afford groceries for decent home cooked meals counts.

The town I live in has absolutely zero public transportation. In addition anything worth doing is in the surrounding towns, malls, grocery stores, movies, all purpose stores. It's literally impossible for me to do anything without a car as walking 10 miles or more to get anywhere isn't realistic.

Crunched some numbers for bare minimum in NY, Long Island specifically. You'd need 39 an hour and that's breaking even with gas, food, car insurance, health insurance, and rent. I can't think of anything else off the top of my head. Got an emergency? You're fucked. And this is assuming you're single, not everyone can find an SO, especially if you struggle like this.

If you live in New York or any major city you should be able to get by fine without a car. If you don't, rent and other general expenses should be much lower. Either way I can't imagine there are many areas where you can't LIVE off 35 an hour.

Though health insurance is a huge factor. Whether the job gives good health insurance or not could be the difference between having enough to live comfortably and even save some money, or barely scraping by from paycheck to paycheck.

Also if you have a family you are supporting that may not be enough.

Born and raised in NYC, currently living on Long Island. I was fine living on my own making $60K in the past. It's easier now with what I make but no, you don't need to make $39/hour out here to live comfortably.
