I was super hyped for this game on release but ended up getting busy with other nonsense and ended up leaving my Xboner in a whole other state. So now I finally bought a copy for the PS4 for $5 so let's see what I missed.

Gameplay wise it's great.

but narrative wise it's pretty boring. None of the characters really hit home. There are some good points in the character missions, but a lot of the time you just go around from marker to marker. The world does not seem as well connected as they did in the first 3 games.

I enjoyed it. It doesn't reach the heights of the original trilogy, but it has its moments.

I really liked it, but weaker than the original trilogy for sure. Characters are hit or miss but there's a couple really good ones. The rest are pretty unoffensive, just bland. Gameplay is good.

I'm not sure who this MI guy is but he sounds sexy.

I think this game is an absolute dumpster fire on all front (even improved combat doesn't help much with how buggy it can get), though I'm in the unfortunate circumstance of having 100% the game because I assumed it would have a save transfer to a sequel that was hopefully better, but no dice.

Had I played more casually...I mean it still would have been dreadful (not one good character, some actively horrendous like...I think her name was PB?), but probably would not have been the nightmare I ended up experiencing.

EDIT: Actually, Drak was just fine, I just forgot he existed.

I'm sure if I played this when hype levels were their highest, I would be extremely disappointed. So far I finished the prologue mission and the best description so far I can find is "it's fine."

It helps that I was finally able to find a custom face there the protagonist doesn't look fucking awful, which is what kept delaying my initial playthrough.

The dialogue isn't great. It feels a bit too jokey, even for BioWare levels of dialogue, to sell the seriousness of the situation. And the least shocking thing in the world is your dad dying, although there's like zero time to mourn him and makes Ryder come off as kind of a jackass. Then again, Earth getting invaded by the Reapers almost immediately kind of created the same effect for ME3 so it's kinda BioWare for the course.

Gameplay feels a bit awkward, too. Then again, I hadn't played a proper ME game since 2014 so maybe I'll get used to it, but I used to play on Insanity and here I am dying on normal. Shame on me. I'm gonna go with my usual Tech powers though I appreciate the ability to move in-between classes.

it's worth five dollars, although I do agree with most of the criticisms in this topic. there were some bug fixes, too. so the five dollar version you're playing now is better than the full priced pre-patch version that was completely obliterated by critics and general audiences on release.

I paid five dollars for it myself, didn't finish it because I thought it was pretty boring. but still. it's five dollars.

There are a lot of $5 indie games more worth your time.

sure, but only assuming that objective quality is the sole determining factor in what game I should play. that argument completely strips away context and categorical appeal. how many of those 5 dollars indie games allow you to create your own character and roleplay in a space opera sci fi setting with AAA production values? because if that's the kind of game you're looking for, there aren't many options.

It's about 100x better than the reception it got. Probably the best stand alone Mass Effect game. Didn't deserve it's fate, at all.

I bought it at full price and thought the gameplay was so so good, but I HATED how my dude looked, and could never get over it, so I stopped.

The most effective anti-Andromeda post yet.
